So I went back in and had a nice discussion about how this isn't the first time I've shipped a saw... and then I get the saw back and my money refunded on my card(that was a bit of a deal too as she said they couldn't put it back on my card
, they ended up doing it anyway).
I've shipped out of this location which is only a mile or so from my house for many yrs now. Everyone there knows I'm shipping saws, it's not a once every couple months sort of thing either, but a very normal thing. There is another place I can bring them to in my town that does usps shipping, I just need to check into whether they go back to the depo in town or to the hub in Grand Rapids after being picked up.
For this one I just ran it to Fedex and they said nothing about what was in the box, but they did require my DL in order to ship it. I guess their new policy is that you have to have instate ID to ship, that stinks too as many times I will be on my way out of state and I will ship a saw from the closest point. At least I can go to a different usps and ship it when I'm out of town.
So the basic breakdown of this situation is that because it previously had fuel in it it will always have some sort of residue in it, therefore it cannot be shipped unless it's as hazardous. I will be looking into that more so I know what's required in case this is something across the board, but I'm pretty sure right now its just this one person and whoever else wants to do it as I've heard from others they've had similar problems so they go to the next town. She was very polite and said they hate to loose my business, everyone there knows who I am, it's a pretty big hit to me. All they have asked in the past was "does it have any fuel in it", that's the same thing they ask at every carrier I've shipped through, that is if they ask what's in the box then that's the next question normally.
She said she would get the info together for me and have the driver drop it off here so I can look it over.
