So, you never got to try it?

Nope got out of all the ported stuff before it was in a saw.

Must be a reason it wasnt put in a MVP 5000's. Figured he had tested it back in the day for the cold start saws.

Back then on RS's the thinking was it wouldnt spool up fast enough for a cold start saw. But might help a hot start saw over the wood.

Watcha think ;)

There was a different product used on the crankstuffing, it mixed up to a white color, do you remember the name ?

Seemed like some super light stuff from what I remember.

Correct! Awol is doing all this work, I think that information would help him.

I was told the crank in the 111 hotsaw by new owner, had a similar looking material in the FC in it. You still have Benny's # ;) Find out what he was using too.

Nope not a clue, but have a WAG. Why dont you PM, Call or Text and explain it to me ;) . I'm pretty freaking slow sometimes. :(

I posted the pic so Alan can see how they were done in the past (check the ring thickness etc on another FC 5000).
Hoping he could spot something that may help him. He already knows I would help him with any info I can dig up for him. ;)

Edit button is nice eh? I asked a few question for the good of the topic. Just a few simple questions, to get answers based on the picture you posted. You go off with a different saw and crank, wtf!!!

Saw is apart Alan awaiting the crank,I cut a cylinder for a 288 piston but didn't port it, gonna see how it runs first but I've got a set of numbers I'm going to try.
No hurry though :eusa_whistle:

After seeing the other pics posted, I'm thinking maybe the rings need to be a little thicker. I also would like to know what the pros use for filler material, as my major concerns lie with the question of durability in the epoxy.

Well the machining is done on the crank, gonna have to visit the scrap yard Monday and find a piece of good steel to use for the rings. They are gonna be about .080" thick on this one.

Alan, best I've got is a product from Hysol. It's a light weight epoxy with good adhesion. Not sure where Kevin was wanting to go, as I was only trying to help. He posted a picture that was helpful, my questions pertained to your use. Either way.

It's all ok Joey! I really appreciate all of the feedback, concerns, and ideas that have been posted in this thread. It'll take me a year to try out all the new ideas I've gleaned from it!

Does anyone have any ideas as to the temperatures that will be inside the crankcase? I know that 3M Panel bonding adhesive is some real tough epoxy, and it has very good chemical resistance as well.

That's a really good question. I do know on these mag saws with the gas tank in the case, it gets hot enough to boil the gas.

I put 2 groves in the inside of the rings to help hold the epoxy in place.
I drilled and plug welded the rings to the crank.
I added a post from the ring to the crank in each void to help hold the epoxy in place.
I used jb weld in a few that I did.
I used a short strand fiberglass autobody filler(marglass)in one.

Joey, I'm not going anywhere with this .

I had a lead on info by a racesaw owner and knew a few folks that could make contact to find what was used by another builder that made FC cranks. Thats all. Looking for filler info.

Dont matter the saw make or builder when looking for filler info.

I got 2 more threads on this now and Alan is involved in 1 of them. So I will keep digging even if it isnt what some want to hear. I want to know just for the sake of knowing now.

Alan is your 5000 a over the wood saw or a cold start saw build?
Glad the pic helped and good luck.:campeon:
