looks like a pain in the keister bunch of windfall pickup sticks…?
You could thin a patch like that and still have a standing patch for a king time I’ve done a lot stuff like that over the years 25 to 35 is a good time to thin if you’re going to.

I think those old timers were the best for breakin guys in. One of the old boys I worked with early on was 60 at the time and had been cutting for 39 years.
I got lucky at got broke in by some of the old growth guys before they all hung up their hats for good I hear some places are screaming for cutters but it’s only part time and it’s not even steady at that. The days of hand falling if it’s not oversized are coming to an end after watching what they guys will do untethered I’d be dang scared of what they’d do on a line.

36" DBH red oak died last winter. I will be harvesting it this fall in addition to several other 24-30+" red and white oaks that recently expired. Currently waiting for my MS661 to come back from Scott Kunz @tree monkey. That will be a perfect felling and bucking saw for these bigger oaks.
P.S. I've been using my MMWS 461 for many years now and it is perfectly capable pulling a 36" bar and chain though any tree in my forest (see my avatar). The TM 661 is definitely a "want" rather than a "need" item.
