Thanks for the link Tor, I just may have to try one, have a couple 42 specials that could use freshening up.
Maybe I should buy two, try one stock, port the other...
I bought one kit for the same reason as you Bill, just want to see how the quality is before I buy another kit.
There is more punch in my 242's compared to those 42/42 special that I have.

I'm willing to bet it's just the box that was made in China.

Here it is, fresh outta the mailbox:

Jeremy, this box was made in Italy .... ;)

Looks like the kit was as well ...

Initial impression is that it looks quite good .... but I do already have a Caber and OEM circlips on the way

I got mine today, looks very nicely made and finished.
A few spots with burrs and casting flash but very minimal and nothing that would cause a problem.
I already ordered another one...

I don't have an unmodified/uninstalled 242 cylinder to compare to but when I last put one in a 42 IIRC the timing was petty much the same and I do have an uninstalled 42 cylinder.
That said, the measurements on the exhaust roof and upper transfer opening are very close to the 42 cyl but the Tecomec has almost a mm less intake duration, so around 4 degrees difference. Combustion chamber on the Tecomec is noticeably smaller.

Can't compare the transfer shape between the two obviously but one observation is that the inside bulge of the bridge is somewhat linear and thick from front to back. On a lot of other similarly designed transfers such as the 262 and 272, the thickness of the bridge tapers, thick towards the intake and thinner toward the exhaust.
Can someone look at a 242 cylinder and see which it looks like?
Assuming my explanation is comprehensible...
At least since it's on the thick side it could be ground to reshape.
Either way I'm liking the look of the transfer shape.

Piston is 34mm tall and 29mm across the skirts. 14mm top of pin to top of piston.
Inside across both windows is FS side 26.2mm and PTO side 28.5mm.

Piston is 30mm tall and 26mm across the skirts. 12.5mm top of pin to top of piston.
I can give you dimensions of a new OEM kit.
Piston: 34mm tall, 14mm top of pin to crown.
Intake shirt: 29.0mm wide
Piston Windows (FS) 25.5mm
Piston Windows (PTO) 28.7 mm

Jug, transfer inside bulge is very lineare from ex-in (not like we see on 262)
Ruffly distance from ports to squish band:
IN 44.5mm
TR (FS) 26.2mm
TR (PTO) 26.1 mm
EX: 22.9mm
Distance cylinder foot - squish band: 60.1mm

Just realized I did something really dumb with the piston measurements/conversions in my last post. Didn't have my digital calipers handy so was using an inch dial caliper and a 6" scale with what I assumed were centimeters, that was actually a centigrade to fahrenheit chart. Was pretty close for being totally random, lol...

I'll edit/correct the original post.
Looks like the Tecomec is pretty similar to oem after all...

Was contemplating buying a third one but looks like the kits are popular, they just went up to $69.90...:(
Still a deal I guess...

I love those dimensions to be honest, without gasket it may be extremely close to OEM timings ;)

70$ is still a good price.
He sold 8 kits the first day ;), there is another eBay store who sell those Tecomec kits for 130$+
