I have to respectfully disagree about being horrible to work on, IMHO once you have had one apart they are one of the easiest top handles ever built to work on, easier than a 200 and MUCH easier than a 201. I think it is like anything else there is a learning curve. As far as how it feels in the hand it comes with three different grips, have you tried them to see if one is better suited to your hands?

There are many TH saws I'd like to buy & try like a solo 637, the Shindaiwa posted above, a 540xp, even the efco but they are not cheap and are essential for tree work so taking chances is not an option. For that reason I have a 201/200/150 and a Makita 231T lightest saw on earth. Another new model in the 25cc class I'd really love to buy/try is the new echo 2510tes...it looks great on the specs sheet. Before the 150t was available I loved the makita 231t but after falling off my landcruiser ute @100kph watching it in the review bounce up & down on the tarmac... I realised while a great light smooth unit to run, the plastic case/oil tank was not as strong as the magnesium Stihls.

I have been down the light none pro grade equipment road and yes it got the job done but wow did it suck in the top of a giant red oak, i melted a hole through the oil tank under the muffler....I would like to run a t540xp before having to buy and try out but my friend @Lone Wolf keeps these 200s rebuild coming every so often I won't be looking for a new saw. Since he fixed mine from being crushed and getting her tuned correctly she is nasty.....I bought a cs2701t it has about 4 tanks through its light better than a hand saw but with my strong running 200 doubt it's going to be out the shop much....question will an echo bar fit a stihl? I want to take the 12" off the echo and put on the 200 haven't tried....

Mine too.

Joe is a Husky dealer, and a good friend, so I'll not go into detail on my thoughts about the 540XP. :)

I figured you would love those little hot rods, still cant live with a good running MMWS or LW 200?

OK, so I got half of bottle of white wine into my wife last night. She agrees (agreed) that I should totally have a new MS 201T CM. I can get a muff modded with ignition advanced shipped for less than my local saw shop will sell me one stock.

From what I understand (admittedly little), the 201T-CM's don't need or respond well to a timing advance. Muffler mod, definitely!

Idk i did mine and it run noticeably better, but didn't seem to gain as much as my adjustable carbed 201T, however the C-M ran way better to begin with out of the box

Interesting. Snelling says the timing advance helps the 201T CM, albeit much less than the 201T relative to stock. Where did you hear negative gains from advanced timing?

That was out of Brad's mouth about a year ago and someone else said the same thing. I figured as new as thy were, initial impression might tell the full tale of the tape. Hell, people are still cooking up new recipes for the 372xp and it's not exactly new...

I just did a new 201cm. I tried it advanced, then put it back stock. It was a little too much for it. Sorta broke up in the cut a little.
Maybe i didn't go as far? Or im just f'd in the head and imagining things but it seems to run better. The latter is very possible[emoji3]

I've got customers that like the modded 201 better than than the 200. I'm not really able to say with any certainty either way though, I just build them. The 201 has come a long way.....
