Despite my advice on a first ported saw to be the saw you use most often, many of us who have many saws ported & stock all kinda have an itch deep inside to one day own a MMWS395xp. Holding onto that thing would be like swinging on a palm tree in a storm.
Well I have never had the chance to swing from a palm tree ..... yet
But I will give full report on what it is like to hold on to a MMWS395XP .

What bar and chain combos would you guys use. I am already invested in a 36" 3/8 .063 ( for milling)thought about getting a 24" and a 28" for any other need I would use it for. Felling and bucking + 24" oak and hickory. (Not a ton around)

As I mentioned, I've never run a 395, but I will say that I don't have much love for a 24" bar. I'm 6'2", and a 24" bar doesn't reach the ground unless i bend over, and it's quite a bit heavier and clumsier than a 20" bar. A 28", though doesn't seem much heavier than the 24", and reaches all the way to the ground, so it can cut back on the hunching over. I don't know how tall you are Corey, but if it were my saw, I'd probably keep a 36" on a nail in the garage for when you need it, and put a 28" on it for working in the woods.

@CoreyB , You better watch out when that 395 comes back - it'll be stuffed with bananas on caffeine! :headbang:
Well that is the plan. Lol stuffed with bananas is the old. The new recipes are coffee infused bananas with coffee snobs coffee of course! Lol

As a Stihl guy, I must admit that these 395's ported intrigue me. Both of the above saws look very strong! Real nice saws.
I am sure you will be happy with it Corey.
Right there with you! I ran T rollers at the PA gtg! Sick!

I like the way they balance with a standard weight 24" - 28" personally. Aren't they a little nose heavy with the 42? .404?
24" or 28" I'm going with a smaller saw for sure. 36" is nose heavy but hell man its a 36" lol. It's not like you're limbing with it

I agree wholeheartedly, I was just saying what I liked on them for balance if falling and bucking all day unless you NEED a longer bar. And I also agree about grabbing a smaller saw for a shorter bar, that is why I love my low top 288 with a 24".
