What is the better option HE-22A or hd-34c? I've got experience with quite a few hd series walbros and haven't had any complaints. I don't know so much about tilloston.
What would I have to change? I know the metering diaphragm plate is different a hd-34c it being a bent tube vs hd-17s ovalish shape. (Sorry long day to much 2 stroke fumes) I'm going to assume that the impulse and fuel lines are in the same place? I don't currently have the saw in my possession but I will here soon.Walbro hd-16 or an hd-17 is what I’d try to source for a 361
Been a while since I was into a 361. I believe it’s just the metering plate and maybe the choke rod? What would I have to change? Both butterfly shafts and the throttle linkage based on memory.Been a while since I was into a 361. I believe it’s just the metering plate and maybe the choke rod?View attachment 443434
Ya I figured as much I just feel like I pester Kevin to much. Both butterfly shafts and the throttle linkage based on memory.
@huskihl could tell you what needs to be done.
At least the choke shaft. But yours was the last one I did, so it’s been a couple years. Can’t remember for certainBoth butterfly shafts and the throttle linkage based on memory.

I have had two Ms361's. One stock and one Kevin ported. A stock 361 is a huge turd and at least needs a muffler mod to run right. A XS ported one is in a different league all together. My Stihl MS 361 that I bough in 2007 is running fine today. I never had to replace any parts and never modified anything. Still a great saw and still runs fine today. 'Nuff said.
Ya I've widened and lowered the intake left the lowers alone for the most part. Did a little bit to the uppers, widened exhaust and cut the base about the thickness of the gasket that why I get the benefit of a delete and leaving it in.I have had two Ms361's. It’s tricky. What would I have to change? I know the metering diaphragm plate is different a hd-34c it being a bent tube vs hd-17s ovalish shape. Is a 440 or 460 1128? I'm pretty sure 1128 is a series of saws right? I don't know for sure. As for the linkage would it be possible to use a little heat on the existing one and reshape it or would reshaping it cause it to come up short? I've got filler rods if needed. Id imagine 3/32 rods would suffice I think my 1/8 would be to thick. It’s tricky.
There’s no boot available that’s larger and has the carb face intake impulse entry. The stock 361 boot has an entry the same size as the 1128 boot, but it chokes down by the outlet. Some swear you can get by with the stock 361 boot, but I’ve always gone 1128 on a hot 361. Then you need the outer metal surround from an 1128 for the boot.
You’ll need an 029/039 impulse line. It’s long enough and there is already a hole in the stock tank for it.
As for the carb, it’s a pita. You need the choke shaft from the 361. You need to file the flat part open to accept the larger 1128 choke butterfly. The throttle shaft stays the same. The metering cover needs to be swapped out.
Then the stock linkage won’t work, because the now bottom/pump plate impulse elbow will be in the way. You have to make your own. Apparently a stock 1128 linkage flipped the other way works well, but I’ve always made my own with tig filler wire.
It’s a lot of work, but seems worth it. I’d love to compare a 361 booted 361 to the 044 boot with no other changes.
Yep 046 1128 my bad its so dirty I couldn't see it until I cleaned that area. You wouldnt happen to know if this is a chrome lined cylinder would you? It’s tricky.

They had both. Nikasil is always yellow tinted. Chrome is silver or blue tintedYep 046 1128 my bad it’s so dirty I couldn't see it until I cleaned that area. You wouldnt happen to know if this is a chrome lined cylinder would you? View attachment 443971View attachment 443970
