Hi Guys. New here. So my pop passed away a while back and I went through his barn and found 3 Stihl weed eaters. An old FS81, which I have fully restored and runs great. Also an old FS83 which I have also fully restored and it also runs great. The last one, the oldest one is the 4112 series FS80 with the Teikei carb, made in Japan. This one is the most intriguing, since it is quite rare these days, made in Japan, which I've never heard of from Stihl, and it is the hardest to find correct parts for. I had a heck of a time finding the gas tank and associated components for it, since it is not a common Stihl anymore. It seems to have a great reputation as a fine machine, all metal and powerful for its size. I enjoy restoring these old Stihls and this one presents some unique challenges. It has my full attention. The piston looks cherry, no striations, and good compression, and it has spark. I took apart the carb and it indeed does have a crunchy metering diaphragm, so went ahead and ordered a kit for it and sprayed it out real good with carb cleaner in all the little nooks and crannies. The throttle cable was also trash. So it will be a process, but one I'm willing to see through. I appreciate all the great information you guys have contributed in this thread. It gives me confidence that just maybe one of these days, I'll get there. Thanks for having me here. Here are the two finished old Stihl I mentioned earlier. Hopefully the old FS80 will join them.
