Both chains make the cut in just about the same time. 3/8 brings down RPMs a bit, .325 chain keeps the RPMs a bit higher.
Same piece of wood. Both freshly touched up chains.
Thoughts???

Carlton chain.
Roll with what is on hand. There is no quantifiable difference. I like the thought of running higher RPM so .325 has that going for it. Either way, square ground/filed chain is where it’s at!

Yes sir. They were both round files. .325 is very hard to square file. For me at least.
I ran a .325 square grind that Dallas made in CT. It was super until I killed it in some dirt on the back side of a log.
The chain was unreal...

I agree completely. I can grind 3/8 but just don’t have the patience to square up .325. I have a few .325 x 18, that I run on 8 pin rims, from @Icepick69 that are really sweet on a ported 026.

So I’ve seen it mentioned in this thread a few times that the 261 fuel tank is smaller than the 026. That would be incorrect according to stihl themselves. D25E1121-AC75-4812-8474-6E336AD1DC2D.jpeg 19613D2B-F496-49B5-9EEA-BB3A31ECA725.jpeg D05601EE-FECE-494D-A910-B059573FBF80.png

I think it might be a misprint. I use a no spill fuel can and the 261cm tank fills up much quicker than the 026 tank. Just sayin. Unscientific observation...

Oil capacity is also less in 261cm...

One is 460 ml and one 500.

Very interesting. Could be an optical illusion, but the 261 tank is visually much smaller.

Takes fuel to make power. Perhaps it’s just burning more.
Yeah I found it interesting too. Could making more power like you said.

I wonder if there is any difference between V1 and V2 in fuel capacity? The one Mason posted looked like a V2 clutch cover.

OK. Went right over your head, but... [emoji2357][emoji2369]

Gotta be open minded. Experiment.

Testing is never wasted time...
You should try 325. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Testing 3/8 and .325 is a total waste of time on 50cc saws.

It's preference. Nothing else.

I use .325 because it's smoother and not as grabby.

Other people have their reasons. It's simple.

If you never test, then how do you know your preference?

No worries Ryan. I got your number. And I know why...
That's OK...

I say black, you say white. I say up, you say down. It's all good.

I did test it, I think most of us saw nerds on these forums have. If a majority of my work was firewood with a 50cc saw I'd probably go with 3/8..it holds up better and clears chips nicer.

There is no right or wrong. Whatever tickles your pickle.
