You seem to use your 026 more than your 261, both ported by the same hack.

Can you expand upon why?
Not sure why. The 026 is a tried and true work horse for me...
I do use the 261cm, and have cut a few trees down with it. I just don't take it into the woods. My newest, cleanest saw. Lol
But if I did not have the 026, I'd take the 261 no worries.
Really odd to see and feel how much stronger 261cm is over 026.
036 in the other hand is super strong for 60cc saw.

I can't think of a reason to buy an 026 instead of a 261 for working purposes.

Me neither. My MS261CM v II is a bad motha.

MOFO made it badder.

I see a lot of praise for the 261. What's it got over an old 026? Serious question, curious how they stack up. I also see those who LOVE m-tronic and those who don't. If I were to buy a 261, I might would bet m-tronic to try it out.

Also, same question above, but add woods porting / modding into the mix. A ported 261 vs ported 026. TIA!

How do they add up?
My Stock 261 MTronic ver. II would hang with my Ported 026s. Maybe not exact, but so close it’s hard to say otherwise.

In Ported form, the 261 has more Balls than an 026.

I bet a new 261 with a muffler mod and timing bump would hang with a ported 026. Maybe even stronger.

My 350 with a 346 cylinder, basic mods and no porting beats a woods ported 026. So I could see a 261 with basic mods beating a woods ported 026...

But make mine a standard carb 261 :). I’m a little wary of mtronic after some headache with a 441 mtronic. I understand the 261 setup is more evolved however?

I have a standard carb 261 freddy mercury ported. I like it.

I have an mtron model treemonkey ported..it's pretty sweet too..but I don't run it often.

Nothing wrong with either. For starters 026 has 44mm jug, 261 has 44.7mm jug.
261 does run stronger and faster. I have both. I like both. I use both.
I get longer run times from 026.

Hmmmm my MMSW 261 is a work saw , and I am talking you know some times it gets a 20"3/8 bar and chain the pussy 260 ain't in the same league as a 261 not even close and not even ported .

I'm nowhere near the brain you are when it comes to the mechanical side of these things. I'm just a dumb wood tick.

But I swear out of the current M-oronic offerings the 261 has the least amount of troubles. Care to share why you think that is ?

I use 201s and 661s that are on their 3rd and 4th solenoids in a fairly short amount of time in chainsaw years. Our 261 probably makes more cuts and gets used the most and it's on it's 2nd solenoid, the 661 getting used the least...I don't understand.

And I still want a 360 you ported with a 25" bar and a wrap handle for chunkin down big pine trees.
What setup do you guys run on the 261?

Both chains make the cut in just about the same time. 3/8 brings down RPMs a bit, .325 chain keeps the RPMs a bit higher.
Same piece of wood. Both freshly touched up chains.
Thoughts???

Carlton chain.

261 takes a long time to break in. I was very disappointed with mine for 8-10 tanks. :( It got a woods port and got used some more. The more I ran it, the better it got. I made some noodling vids for the sale ad, and by then it was rockin’ in hard, dead oak. (3/8 x 18)
I used the funds to buy a NOS 357 XP. No regrets.
I have a bunch of ported 026’s, they are ideal for my woodlot. Simple and pretty much bulletproof.
