Could this be an ignition issue as in weak spark?
+1..... and dumb question for the OP.... did ya throw a new plug on it? Did you check to see if it has good spark cold and hot?

Sitting here thinking of the saw and my build, of course the GF thinks I am thinking of other girls, anyway, I was thinking, there was no arrow on the piston, so I put forward the engraved numbers, is it possible the piston is backwards??
Well, that won’t make the saw flood. But it could hang a ring if backwards. Pull your muffler and make sure you can’t see the ring end pins.

Doing some research I think the Tillotson carb has a dirty filter compensator.

I had a saw I pieced back together and put a new ngk plug on. It kept flooding and I kept trying different things. Had me pulling my hair out and feeling like I was beating my head against a wall. Put another new ngk plug in it and it has been running perfect ever since. Worth a try. I know I didn't get the only bad new plug in the world.

Did you put OEM carb kit and needle spring in it?
I've had trouble before with aftermarket carb kits saw run fine before but thought it's old so put a cheap kit in it. Flooded bad even under WOT it was getting that much fuel it bearly run took a lot of pulls to get it going fuel was running out the muffler lol
I put the old kit buck in problem solved never did look at the why or what was going on with the Chinese carb kit to make it flood.
Not saying that's what's going on with your saw just I know what you mean when you say it's flooding.

I store my 088 inside , if I dont push the decomp in when stored it will be rich on the edge of flooded after sitting in a hot room.
The tank vent is tight by design, but I would suggest replacing the red check valve with a new one incase it's sticking.
The check valve is the same one used in the newer Holley carburetor accelerator pumps (trim the pull through).
Man if mine is close to flooded the damn thing wants to rip my arm off! I feel for you.

I flooded my 088 only one time that I can remember. When that bad boy finally started it blew so much smoke you’d have thought I was fogging mosquitoes.
I do remember having to hold the throttle wide open while tugging on that sob. I can’t remember how I did it only it was NOT fun. I feel your pain.

The 088 is a mother f’er if you flood it. That’s for sure and for certain. I remember pulling on mine almost to the point of exhaustion. I was one happy dude when that thing finally came to life. I think now I expect it to pop after 2-3 pulls and run on the next.
I’m real aware where the controls are set too, I think that was my problem.
