My aux oil button is not working on my 084. The oil pump works as it should running off the spur gear. I did reseal the pump a few years ago when I got the saw. The aux oil button worked fine then. Any help would be appreciated I am going to go read the service manual now and see what I can figure out.

It is still hooked on the lever end near the master control switch and the cable is moving. Maybe the cable is stretched out and push or pull the pump piston enough.15830982116621400847425113090851.jpg

I would guess that the cable is over stretched. I will call my dealer Monday and see if it is still available. Guy on eBay has a whole pump nos for $150

Yeah, the cable has been NLA for a while. New old stock or good used ones are your best bet. I would diagnose the cable and oiler prior to buying parts though.

How often do you run this saw?

Depends really. Sometimes not at all sometimes a bunch just depends on the jobs that come in. I could not find anything on eBay as of yet. You are correct I need to dig into it a bit farther. I will post a few pics when I get it tore down. I have a brand new 880 in the box. Thought about selling this 084 as I really don't need two saws that size. Plus 880 is current production at least for now.

I believe all it does is tell the pump to put out max oil, correct? So if the oiler control bolt is set to max, there won’t be any noticeable difference in the amount of oil with the aux button pushed in. It’s not a true manual oiler like some of the older saws

That was my understanding of how it works, you just hold the the button down for more oil, I think it gives a little more (~40% maybe) oil than just the max adjustment.

Ahh. Wasn’t sure if max on the bolt was max on the button

So what you are saying is that if you pump the button it will not put an extra shot of oil. You have to hold the button to receive max oil output.

Yeah, just hold the button down, no pumping.

The button isn’t hard to push, but it should bottom out on the pump end, so you will feel the flex of the lever/cable when it is pushed all the way down.

If it just pushes down easy and hits the bottom hard there might be something wrong.

When set on half it floods when you push the button on mine.

It has a good resistance as you depress the button. You can feel it moving and hear it moving in the pump.
Guess I don't have a problem after all. This whole time I thought I was really doing something by pumping the button.

Turn the pump down to the lowest setting and while running the saw, push the button down. Should be able to see a huge difference

I can bottom out the pump by manually depressing the lever with the air filter housing off. I have to use a screwdriver to depress the button enough to bottom out the pump.

Cable may have stretched. I’ve only been into a few of them and can’t remember where the adjustment is, if there is one

I don't think there is an adjustment for the cable on the 084 like there is on the 3120. I guess I could get off my fat ass and go look at one of my 084s...

Yes, the manual oiler button is simply an override - the cable pulls the adjustment/pump piston to the full open position, causing the pump to move the most oil.

However, in rebuilding some 084 oil pumps, I found that the pump piston was still able to move a wee bit even when the control screw is set to max,
so if the cable and button are working good, they may be able to get a little more oil than just having the screw at max.

Jacob do you remember if when you depress your button it stops completely or if it has a bit more travel. As in bottom out the pump piston.

If I am understanding correctly there is only a slight difference in overall output from Max bolt setting and the depressed button. Guess you would mainly notice the extra oil flow at lower bolt setting
