There are plenty of 066 threads but this one is for the red light models.

I have one that is going to get rebuilt and restored.
The red light still works which is a plus!!

I have had it for a couple weeks now and wasn't game to take the top cover off, for fear of finding a chinese cylinder with a plug in the decomp.

I found a wonderful thing!

I would like this thread to be all encompassing of all things related to Stihl 066 red lights.

Post up your pics, vids, rebuilds, timings, whatever........ hook in!

One thing I am interested in is what needs to be done to run this saw with an 066 unlimited coil?

I plan to use this baby, but want to keep the red light coil in running condition, it would suck to go using it and have the red light fail...... its half the fun.

The limited coil actually has more ignition advance than the stock unlimited coil. 31* vs 27*.

If I recall right, it's a 1214 two key flywheel that's needed for the swap....

I dont want to have a red light sitting in my garage gathering dust.
I plan to strip it and rebuild it with all OEM parts which will cost me about $1,000,000 in Australia if I need a new oil hose.

I would also like peoples opinions on modifications to these saws?
Would I be stepping out of line deleting the gasket and sanding the squish for a bit more go or do people think they should be kept factory original?

Also, the platics on mine look to have a bit of burn on them

I would love to know if anyone has any nice plastics they would be interested in parting with?

A 066 Red Light does'nt have a oil line like the 064 do

I did a 064 with all OEM NOS parts and its was over 1100 in parts here in the USA !

opening upper muff and advancing timing can be a great improvement too much compression can be a bear to start on these !

I ran the small crank for a while but 240lb of compression ate flywheel side bearings so I switched it all out for the 660 crank and bearings.

It's the best of both worlds, short case with long case guts.
