Have you checked how much you need to cut to keep the ring from hanging?

I cut the base to whatever I need to save the ring then cut the chamber for whatever squish your looking for.
Usually 020 or 030 from the chamber will be all.

No not yet
The case is in bits and I want to measure it on the case it will be cut for.

When I checked this cylinder on my 066 case I think it needed .070 off the base to keep the ring tucked in safe, but not hidden completely

Looking hack at some numbers, the KS red light jug was 82 on the intake.

Do you call the figure when you can see the port physically start to open or as soon as you can see light when shining a torch in the spark plug hole.

I may be reading it at slightly the wrong pont.

What numbers would the jug have if it was a good one?

I will be a little less harsh on the open/close readings and see what I get

Right!

Set up the cylinder with an OEM piston and new bearing on a MS660 case.

With a stop in I set the degree wheel to give me the same 27* both ways before hitting TDC

With the basics set, I moved to the timings

Exhaust came in at 95* once I went with "see opening" not "see light"

Transfers measured at 121 - 122* (hard to see, need a better light) on intake side, moving to 126 - 127* on the exhaust side

Intake closed at 80*

Here is my setup, just for interest sake

Cost me $15 for the drill chuck from china, rest is free.

I set the wheel on close to TDC and then use the intake opening to set it. When it matches goin both directions then I check the others

I tried to measure timing with the 288 piston fitted but the skirts hit the case so I cant turn it over to set TDC.

Will have to wait till I get the 064 case back together.

Going to go order some stuff tomorrow.

I wanted to take some pics so the good folks that are helping me with this can see if I am measuring it properly and gain some confidence in the numbers I post up.

When the numbers I measure get questioned, I strait up know I am doing something wrong.

Am I on the right track here?

Now..... the big question

Is this jug going to be optimal for the task?

If its not I will leave the bits in a box till I find one that is.

If I am building one of these, I dont want it to be 2nd best

If you drop the jug .075" that's 5 degrees on intake and exhaust timing. Transfers will be a tiny bit different from the rod angle.

The intake is the only problem but it can be fixed.

Fill it with jb weld.
If 85 is all you will have it will be alright with the higher exhaust.

Did you chamfer the inside edges of the bottom of the skirts?
