Hi Folks.

I was planning to convert my 066 to run a 288 piston but it runs so damn well as it is, I want to keep it as it is.

On a recent trip to pick up a pile of junk saws, one of them was an 064 case in good condition under the dirt, that's had something go through the motor. There is a chunk out of the side of the piston and it has cracked and broken the transfer bridge on one side of the jug.

So, I have a really nice OEM cylinder from another junk saw, a Meteor 288 piston and an 064 needing some love and a new P&C.

I know what I plan to do with it!
If I am going to build one, it may as well be a proper one.

I have made a mandrel out of very hard nylon that I plan to slot and fit with a HHS cutting bit to cut the squish by hand.

It needs a new tank handle and I have a Chinese one in the mail.
I will split the case and fit it out with all new OEM bearings etc.
It will get a V-stack and K&N air filter.
I have an OEM triple ported muffler that will go on, ensuring it flows lots of air and is obnoxiously loud.

Let the build begin!

I have another 064 apart at the moment and the flywheel is a good 30% smaller, making it lighter.
I see why it is preferred!

It also has 2 keyways fairly close together?

What are they for on the 064?
There's a couple coils available back then. Gives you the option of using the newer universal coil that fits 026-066

TJ, I have the dual keyway flywheel for the early 066.
It was for the red light coil or the later unlimited coil.
I needed it when I converted my red light to run unlimited and it worked well.

Now to work out which slot to use :)

Ok
I just pulled the flywheel on the saw shown above and it has a single keyway "1204" flywheel and a coil with a longer body.

I am assuming the larger coil is a limited unit.

I will keep the smaller "universal" sized coil and the dual flywheel for the saw build and put the others on the flip saw.

Ok

Went and read up on @Definitive Dave info post on the 1122 series.
I have the highlighted flywheels.
I will put the limited coil and 1204 flywheel on the saw I plan to sell and keep the unlimited coil and 1203 dual key flywheel

I wonder what the difference is between the 1203 and 1204 double keyway flywheels?

Quote:

1122 400 1203 - 064, 064R for use with limited coils 1303 [92.12ipl] (gap of .2 to .3mm)

1122 400 1203 (double keyway) - 064, 064R for use with limited or unlimited coils

Keyway X or B is furthest clockwise for unlimited coils

Keyway P is furthest counterclockwise for limited coils

1122 400 1203/1204 - marked with both but only one keyway, normally limited

1122 400 1204 – 064 – limited with retarded start timing (a’ la Mastermind’s pic)

1122 400 1204 (single keyway) – 064 for use with limited coils ONLY

1122 400 1204 (double keyway) – 064

Keyway X or B is furthest clockwise for unlimited coils

Keyway P is furthest counterclockwise for limited coils

How good is this......... a pile of junk and it will end up being a power house!

Another question: Are the 064 carbs up to it or should I be looking at a different carb?

I dont want big felling spikes on it.

Any recommendations?

How do I do that mate?
I have already taken the inside edge off the piston for a 66 crank

Do I need to grind the case?
Put the piston on and go to bdc,you will see what needs done.

Also don't cut a .100 off the base, set it up and see how much you need to keep the ring from hanging, not hide it just keep it from hanging. I've gotten away with only cutting 060. The least you cut the better off you will be.
