Hello, I am new to this Forum, first time posting. I am seriously thinking of taking the points and condenser out of this 031, and replacing it with the little electronic ignition module. Has any of you ever done this, and if so did it run better or worse. I would like some input and advice before I undertake this task. Thanks ed

I have never done a 031 but I just finished a 032av and it runs great. I have read that the 031 had two different flywheels with different timing. I used the Oregon module marked Nova 2 worked great.

I don't think you will have a problem with it unless it had an electronic flywheel but if the saw is original as it is I see no problem .

I did this to a stihl 020 av , I didn't want to mess with the points and condenser so swapped out the entire coil to a electronic ignition coil. Ran real good

If anyone needs a cylinder and piston for one of these, let me know. I have a good one.

I completed the conversion from points to electronic, also changed all the fuel lines while I was at it, and I am happy to report it was a success, the 031 is running great, thank you all for the input, but this isn't the last you will hear from me, I will be bugging you all from time to time for more information, thanks again, and happy new year to you all.

@hoskvarna did you ever get the 031 running? Does it have spark? The Nova chip hooks up backwards on that saw compared to most. If you don't have spark, switch the leads. If you have spark and it still will not run, check the flywheel key. When I got mine the key was sheared where someone didn't tighten the flywheel properly at some point. I hope this helps.

I have bought several on eBay. I am sure many suppliers sell them as well.

I still have not got to mess with it. My shop burnt down 1/21,the saw was not in it,luckily.
So I have no tools or a place to work on it.
There is a thread started a raffle on here if u want to see some pics.
I did loose 7 other saws among lots of other things!
