Stihl 029 vs 029 Super question

I am thinking about a Stihl 029 Super and wonder if piston and cylinder are the same. I know I can just tear down the saw to check but I hate to the parts just in a box for me to lose some them while await parts so please humor me on this.

I might the 24" Oregon bar that I given on this saw.

The only way I could see you running that setup would be the 390 top end and a healthy muffler modification. Even then, you'll probably need full skip chain. And you better keep that chain sharp.

Stock 039 is maxed with a 24" bar

I put an 039 jug on a 029S. With a timing advance and a muffler mod it pulls a 20” real well. I think the oiler would be lacking for a 24” bar.

An 039/MS390 will run a 24/25" bar without problems. Although I think 64cc is marginal for 2 foot of bar. I've run up to a 30" on an 039. It didn't like it much but that's what I needed to do at the time. (tornado clean up)
When I sell an 039 I offer them with an 18, 20, or 24" bar. Most select the 20"

I went from a .325 20” to a .375 18” on mine. Seems to work the motor to its potential IMO.
