That's because it's a one ton. Just because it doesn't have duals don't mean it's not one ton... you guys just don't like Ford's which is fine. I like them both I'm not a Chevy hater, trust me. I love them, too, but I'll always pick a good old Ford highboy over a Chevy truck any day that's just my personal preference, so keep the hostility towards me down to a minimum.

That old Chevy that I posted pics of would haul a load better than any other truck I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a bunch of different trucks (most 1 tons).

But it sucked in a lot of ways and I don’t have it any more.

I drove all sorts of things on a Friend's ranch growing up, but the vehicle that I got most of my initial road experience in was Dad's 1987 Chevy Scottsdale 1500. It was a long bed, reg cab, 2x4 with a TBI 4.3 and 700R4. It hauled stupid amounts of weight pretty regularly between firewood, manure, sand and other chores. Had 5 tons of Sand in it one time, that was a bit sketchy... It was slow as hell, an did't fare well with trailers, but it always got the job done. It was the same shade of blue as Marshy's truck.

My wife wants me to build her an '85 short bed 4x4, as a mud/play truck.

I want to build an 86-90 1 ton, reg-cab, SRW 4x4, with air lockers front and back, a built and injected 454, or 8.1 (496), 5-speed manual and a NP 208, sitting on 35's with 3.83's and dual exhaust (with proper X-pipe).

33's-35's are about perfect on them.More than that just gets impractical very quickly. The Chevy (therefore better) version of the old Highboy Ford. has always made me smile! And before the ferd lovers roast me, here's the trucks I use right now:
2005 F350 CC/FB, 6.0PSD, 5R110, 4x4, KR.

Not a big fan of the 6.0 PS. Not enough low end grunt IMO. Good top end power but you gotta keep the revs up. The 6.7s are stupid expensive, but have incredible power.

I love the old 7.3, but the 6.0s treat me well. You're correct on the low-end grunt though. I will likely own a 6.7 PSD or 6.7 Cummins eventually, but right now, I'm happy. I'm trying to pay stuff off, to buy a new 75hp tractor/FEL, and GN trailer, so a prettier truck isn't in the cards right now. Hell, if Toyota would build a 4x4 dually C/C, with a Hino (Toyota Heavy industries) 6cyl Turbo-diesel, the big three could all kiss my a$$. I love the Toyota 5.7 in my wife's Sequoia, but it and a 1/2 ton truck just can't safely do the things I need/want to do.

I'm 42. Started at an independent shop at 16, at the dealer for 22 years.
Sure it's a GM dealer, but I work on them all.
And I hate them all equally. Do it day in and day out, they all drive you bugshit eventually.

Still wish I had the 78 Furd I had back in high school.

Sure it's a GM dealer, but I work on them all.
And I hate them all equally. Do it day in and day out, they all drive you bugshit eventually.

Still wish I had the 78 Furd I had back in high school.

Yeah the 78 are definitely a good one better steering and way better brake's. My 75 has been converted to Chevy disk brake's in the front and it's a little bit better but I'm hoping to find a complete 76 front open nuckle diff with the big disk brake's.

Mine are a mite rusty, but the blazer is in good mechanical order. 3/4 ton has good motor (454), but bad clutches in transmission. Getting ready to fix that. Got it fired up yesterday so part way there. I have an extra transmission for it so I can rebuild it and do a quick swap. Also have an underdrive unit for the TH400.

Your old Ed! I had a 83 Nissan for a first truck, I loved it but it was too small for me really, I have always like the mini’s But love full-size nowadays, I just don’t fit in the small stuff too well! I used to despise the boring sbc as a kid, I like the simple things more now.

Did they go 8” and 38”? I have a friend with scsb with 12” and 44” tires on 1/2 ton gear, he broke d44 stubs, basically just putting it into gear! Lol the put a 30spline 10 bolt and it puts up to same abuse, 89-91 blazer 1/2 is pretty tuff front axle! Lol

He said 12” lift and 40” tires. The truck is a K-30 so it has the Dana 60 up front.

In the grand scheme of things I think old trucks are better for the environment since they ain't filled with plastic and since they are still on the road they have more than offset their carbon cost.
