Nice. I had an ‘87 half ton that I drove for 13 years. Rebuilt it with all OE body panels in high school and drove it till the floor rotted out and I was sitting in the gas tank. Lol. Good truck but the 305 and Muncie 465 made for a terrible driving truck if I’m honest about it.

I have had several, one day I want to get another one. Top photo is a 1978 1 ton 383 striker with sm465 trans. Used it to pull snowmobile trailer when I raced. Second one is 1990 1 ton 454 ,sm465, that I converted to auto with overdrive. Third is 1984 K20 350, sm465. And last one is 1978 K10 350 auto.D96C24D2-0A41-4AC9-BF1D-71C781498F1E.jpeg 009281A9-FC85-4BAC-B729-5CB23C0A7C6C.jpeg 8139B2D0-7FE5-4CEB-9428-8A6BA3D90E90.jpeg 2FFED5CC-2810-4023-8ED2-C6E4D5279D15.jpeg

Nice trucks! They all rot around here, rarely see any.
I had an 85 quite some time ago. Had a 305, 700r4 and 3.08 gears. It wouldnt spin on wet grass..
Ended up with a tbi injected 406 with vortec heads, overhauled the 700r4, and went with 4.10's and an Easton posi. 4" springs and 33" super swampers.
Body rotted and I sold it..

Ed, how did you like that motor combo? What cam did you use?

It was a Comp cams 4x4 extreme cam. I dont recall the specs on it, but it wasn't very radical and was more of a flat torque curve cam which is what I wanted.
I feel the injectors I used in the swap to tbi were too small, and there was a bunch of tuning issues, likely because its such a simple system and we didnt really have a grasp on tuning at the time. It always had a "flat spot" at about 2600 where it would seem to bog slightly.
It ran great though. I should have just stuck to carbureted.. it ran better.

It did have some running hot issues with the plow on it. Big radiator and 5 blade fan helped a bit. Jammed chunks of 2x4 between the cowl and hood, slammed the hood and bent it up to make a redneck cowl hood, that really helped keep the heat down.

Y’all have some sweet looking squares. Here’s my 85. Nothing special stock 350 w/700R4, my hopes are to build up the engine and trans in the next year but we’ll see how life goes. Sitting on 33’s with a 2” rough country all spring lift. It’s no show truck but it holds its own up here in the rust belt.
