But are the transfer entrances well refined from the factory?

I have never seen a set of lowers that wouldn't benefit from case matching.

And in regard to the lowers and the piston, what did you decide on for this phase of the build?

The lowers were case matched pretty well on this saw, I went through and added a bevel, and rounded the devider. It got pretty wide once I cut the base.

I didn't see the bottom of the piston causing any major issues.

Time will tell if I go back into this one. Part of the reason I got it done early.

I like to think about case volume. Do I know anything about what makes a great case size? No. I really do not.

For what is worth though......I see this saw as being in the middle of the road as far as case volume goes. It's not real tight, but, it has a full skirted piston. It also ends up with a long duration intake port. What does this mean? I wish I really knew. But.......in my mind I don't think adding more case volume would help anything. If I could do anything.......I'd add a set of stuffers.

One.man.band on chainsaw repair was doing a lot of testing on case capacity and how it affected the characteristics of the saw. I think 1.4x the cc is where it was best. That's what I've read for some other smaller 2 strokes as well.

That could be interesting.. stuffers that is.

Seems with the open transfers it would add some volume? No??

Stuffers would reduce case volume a good bit. If "stuffers" is being used synonymously with full circle crank, I think the larger impact would come from the reduced turbulence in the crankcase.

Why does Husqvarna use stuffers on only one of their production models? Previously the 357, and now the 562?

I don't know what information we want, but I would think we started compiling all the information we know about a particular model

Port timing
Port size
Port shape
Bore
Stroke
Rod length
Case volume

We may start to see a correlation develop.

Is CC measured with the piston at TDC? And.......is the intake tract back to the throttle plate included?

Piston at TDC I believe. All the way back to the carb is how he was changing blocks to see how it ran with more or less volume.

576 has them as well.

I've been thinking of doing this when I get time to start playing. Document as much data as I can on each model, before and after mods. Then start looking at the good and the meh, and look for patterns.
I'm in!

Scott told me a great tidbit a while back. What saws do the timber fallers really like? Why? What makes them so good? Study the saw that are really good stock........look for patterns.

Seems the one that starts everytime, and runs all day? :)

Exactly!
I'm thinking of starting with 262xp, than 346xp, and go from there. That will get me a good dual and a good quad to study.

Set round 13,800

First attempt on square filing...

The other 20" 590 vids have a Mr Lee Sq chain. So I consider times irrelevant.

I'm gonna try and put some time on this saw. Not sure if it is lagging at all. dot dot dot

Getting a bit of mix through her, don't think I'm gonna change a thing port wise.

Still running the 670 carb. have to get a stock one modded yet.

First cut is testing "torque" or av springs/brittle plastic.

Good thing it was warm today, tank likely shatter pulling on it like That. :)

Good chain, fat tune left it just under 13 from running the big bar.

Hopefully someone will like it much as I do..
