From what i know so far, it's a standard carb without MT on the 881. And yes, because of the traditional Stihl construction (carb on the tank not on the crankcase) there is no pre filtration like on the 261 or 462. It should have a bigger HD2 Filter.
Pre filrtation should be standard nowadays!!! I don't understand why they keep doing this. First the 500i now the 881.

There’s no excuse not to with the separate tank housing either. The echo 590/600/620p has a separate tank housing and utilizes a flexible injection bellows to connect the air injection to the intake box.

If you were to get a quantity of these to sell the stihlboys you could fund your retirement.

A Stihl engineer told me, they still do this to maximize the airstream from the flywheel and use it just for cooling the saw as best as possible, i don't know if thats true or they beeing just lazy.

Personally it annoys me a little bit with my 661 and 500i, my 395's and 390's don't need that kind of cleaning after cutting a whole day in dry wood.

sorry.... i have a 372xp but's not stock. But I can compare a stock 572xp if that's ok

They could follow the Echo way and do the opposite where air is sucked into the air box by the flywheel with the intention that the heavy dust particles will easily follow the path to the flywheel, missing the air filter.

New generation echoes have it both ways (7310 & 3510) - one channel pushes, the other pulls. On 7310 air circulates fully around the filter. That's why I asked to drop in the pic of the cover from inside.
@StephK87 make sure to run at least 10 tanks for run in and re-tune. It will be "tight" in the beginning.

Watchya got going on there sir??

This.
The white duct supplies pre-cleaned flow which goes around the filter and it's then sucked to the black channel visible in one of the first photos in this thread.
The cover pic makes it more obvious.

Nice work, is there a “jet” you can use for particle separation like on the huskies? Husqvarna calls it a ‘jet’ on the IPL, but to avoid any confusion in what im saying it is the part that fits in the flywheel area that only picks up air from the inner area of the space. Avoids the larger particles from coming into filter area

The "injecting" part of air supply does this job in combination of inlet opening placement in relation to flywheel. Then there is a kink of a duct with changing cross-section and then again varying cross-section in the white duct which also has separating port - particles are ejected to the main cylinder cooling flow.
For the particles that made it to the airbox, the smooth swirling action around the air filter tends to keep the particles moving around&away due to centrifugal force.

In simple terms, inlet port location is different but it's also placed at the flywheel where the pressurized air is the cleanest.
Outlet port is traditionally located at the low pressure zone before the flywheel.

Sorry, still waiting for the saws to deliver from my dealer. I'm sitting on tenderhooks

But here is a video of another 7310sx which i will also receive later this month. From a good friend and logger for porting. Saw is on it's second tank in the video, so it's not broken in, need a re-tune after some tanks for full potential.
