Xs 2095 jonsered
Some red oak that was windblown for a few years.
.404 oregon 28ax skip semi chisel hand filed to 10 degree.
She fed and chewed very nice.
And imho i believe you also get less "chatter" and vibration. Ive never used semi chisel until yesterday and yes is it a little slower than full but it stays sharper longer.
Ive tried from 25 to 10 and i have to say 10 is just the best for how i do it.
How many cuts were you getting before filing? I was just milling honey locust about 35" wide, 10' long and after about 4-5 cuts, speed dropped off. Squared full chisel full skip. Definitely get chatter though but I like the faster cut.
I didnt have to touch it up that whole section. It yielded 7 planks in it. The next section i did 8ft 6 inches and made it 3 passes before i touched it up. I have used 3/8 full chisel and .404 full chisel. .404 has alwsys stayed sharp longer. This is the first semi chisel and it definately lasts longer. Its a little slower but less vibration and smoother for sure.
I was fortunate to get a pile of 5.5mm swiss vallorbe round files from the 70's in the old babyblue boxes from an old hardware store going out of business. They definately make a difference. In sharpness and longevity.
The sausaged 2095 used almost a full tank on the 8ft passes. I run 32:1 100ll airplane fuel and amsoil dominator.
