I appreciate those who have been mods/admins and those who are now. It's not always an easy job especially when a thread flames up like a hemorrhoid. @Woodpecker set me straight early on when I made a joke with a new member, but could have been taken the wrong way (making 10 quick posts so that he could sell a saw)...I totally deserved it and glad to have active mods/admins to help keep this ship righted. I support those in place, keep up the good work!!

Yep, it’s there…not many seem to use it

Hi Richard. Now you have some trade history 😁
It was a pleasure to do business with you. Might have noticed if the (trader history) was labeled Feedback. I cut wood for a living. Not very computer savvy. I'll go back and do reviews on the people I have dealt with. Today has put some light on the people I should avoid.

MOGA.

Honestly, this whole SNAFU is what happens if people take what you write too seriously. We can’t judge each other’s real emotions or intentions from their posts, like you could if it was face to face. That’s why everyone should be as clear as possible. If you are plum broke and can’t afford to ship a saw that you sold, then say it. There’s nothing wrong with admitting reality.

Absolutely no clue what's been going on.... but, I'd sure hate to see ope die out.

All I have to say is people are sometimes poopheads, and they should quit being poopheads, and we all need to be patient with poopheadedness because it happens.....

I've bought and sold probably around 20 saws over the last few years with very few issues, and to my knowledge none were unresolved.
It's all about being honest, humble, reasonable, and trying to see any problems from the other guy's prospective as well as our own.
Most members here are fine upstanding guys...... but crooks, thieves, and plain o'l poopheads are out there....buyer beware.

One of the most useful/ constructive things for helping sales go smoothly is when folks who have done business with the seller chime in on the for sale thread, with a nod of confidence.
Several of the people in this discussion do that on a regular basis and I really appreciate it, whether I'm the seller or a prospective buyer.
(Woodpecker and the sausage man are both very good about this)

I'd sure hate to see selling on ope become so legalistic & regulated that we might as well sell on ebay.....however it wouldn't hurt us to do a lot better about leaving trader reviews (or whatever it's called.
YOU point out many strong points . I have bought quite a few saws and small things and I wasn't aware of "THE NOD OF CONFIDENCE" More than most of these have been Great transactions and deserve a "NOD" I will mend my ways.

I have no idea what happened nor what is going on here.
I figure, yet again the old:
- botched saw purchase
- port work
- jeopardized livelihood

Not gonna comment on that old story!

I have seen ample mention of the Trader History, all I can say is:
My trader history has ONE (1) rating, yet I have sent close to (possibly OVER) 100 packages to the US and ALL of them got delivered.
Forum members doing business with other forum members don't seem to have time to leave a rating, no matter whether good or bad.

I think to recall my rating was "12" before the new system got implemented, still less than 100 but 12 times better that 1.

I newer understood what the new trader history brought that the old rating didn't already have!

I always felt well cared for by Randy & Woodpecker, thankfully I see my good friend Sondre did not get the boot.

I think if new members were suggested to read this thread it would do a lot towards helping them realize what's ok and what's not.
OK & plain WRONG should be common sense.

Anyone without common sense of decency and proper behaviour can not be thought otherwise, nor will he care if someone tried.

They did a great job that's for sure!!! I just think Randy needs a break, woodpecker too. Not because I don't like them it just has to get stressful sometimes and they'd been doing it a long time, with probably too little recognition from the rest of us.

That being said. Why is anyone other than the buyer and seller getting involved in a sale ? If you choose to do anything other than show up with cash in hand and physically exchange cash and item OR pay with a method like PayPal NON friends and family you run the risk of getting burnt. No more needs to be said. You’re taking risk buying from someone you have only known online.
This guy gets it. Mods aren't the BBB or a debt collection agency, they are here to make sure we don't step out of line. As a certain monkey said in a thread in the Chainsaw Ads section:

Once in awhile we have a situation crop up where a guy buys a saw/parts/etc and never receives what he paid for. It's rare here, but it does happen.

How to avoid becoming prey to an online scammer is a matter of education. They say that the best education is the one you gotta pay for, but with a little diligence, you can (avoid) spending big bucks.

Before you send someone online money make sure you have done these things....

1. Ask the seller for references. Who here on OPE forum can vouch for you? Have you sold to other members?

2. Ask for detailed pictures. If the seller is on the up and up....they will be willing to do something as simple as post pictures.

3. Never use PayPal F&F. If the seller demands that you use F&F, walk away.

4. Don't just give them your address. Ask for their address, and a phone number. It's not a bad idea to actually call and have a conversation.

Anyone have any thoughts, or other ideas to add to this list?

It sucks having to do things this way, but that's the world we live it. Everyone isn't trustworthy.

Like my dad once told me....

"It's ok to trust people, but go ahead and cut the cards anyhow"

We're probably all partly responsible for this mess, the admin/mods need to know we stand with and support them.

There's a reason his username was Mastermind...
This really all comes down to respect, if we loose respect for each other the whole thing falls apart.
