My Ford was getting into 6-8 gallons of DEF every 2500 miles not towing anything. Constant regents and horrible mileage compared to what it was getting. It’s not a major problem til it gets full and leaves me stranded in Kadoka South Dakota or something place like that.

That seems excessive, the 16 Duramax I have is 2.5 gallons per 6K the 1270 Deere uses 2.5 every 100 gallons.

Standard one. They didn’t have any 3500s left there with the employee pricing discounts. It’s a slug compared to the power stroke honestly.

How does it compare to the power that your F-250 had before you tuned it? Im sure the difference is night and day comparing it to your tuned Powerstroke.

It was very excessive. It did it all of the sudden.

It’s not what the Ford was.

Interesting, the tech side of me wants to know what failed that caused the excessive usage of DEF? Driving habit lots of town driving?

My truck ( ‘16 F-350) gets horrible mileage, but hardly uses any DEF. my brothers ‘17 Ram gets better mileage but uses a ton of DEF. My truck has noticeably more power.

Not really. We’ve put 46k miles on it this year. It was pretty well all highway driving. We don’t do too much in town driving or idling during the summer. I’m sure the filter is just about clogged and needs taken off and cleaned.

I was following an older 7.3 PS the other day, and it stunk to high hell. It is totally *f-wording gross to breathe that *s-word... I had to pass him, and roll down my windows to clear that ass stink out of my truck.

Unless mine starts giving me a lot of trouble, I will probably just leave the DPF in place.

Yeah, I bet. I’d swap that *b-word for an LS 6.0.

The Fords from the 6.9 & 7.3 IDIs to the 7.3 & 6.0 PS are just disgustingly foul smelling, IMO.

and stacks are ghey. :wave1:

I recently drove my friend's idi 7.3 while my truck was down with a blown brake line. Even in the cab going down the highway that thing smelled AWFUL.

My 13 ram was recently deleted. The def system went haywire which caused the regen system to go into a safe Mode which shut down the regen system which in turn allowed the turbo to soot up to the point of no longer working [emoji849][emoji849]. Well after deleting and doing a gen 2 turbo swap it’s back in business and runs like it always should have, but you quickly remember why the smell of raw diesel is not pleasant. It’s not too bad most of the time but every once in a while you get a big whiff of it.

My sense of smell isn't that great, so the smell of my 7.3 Power Stroke doesn't bother me one bit. When I was younger I hated the smell of diesel.

I agree with you. I was on the 3rd replacement of my DEF system when I had it deleted. If it still worked I would still have it. The difference in power and throttle response was instant but so was the smell. I wish the DEF system worked just for the clean exhaust.

The last time it failed I was on the interstate and it shut me down to 65mph and was going to move me to 55mph soon. I made it home before that happened. 2012 duramax
