What saw is it?
I have had a couple through my shop that have done that now, any idea what causes it?

Also nice oil film on the piston, Red Armor?
That's a freshly rebuilt and ported 10mm 044. New crank bearings and everything.

Yes that's Red Armor. 32:1. Saw was tuned fat for break in and only just on its second tank of fuel.
I have no idea what caused it. Don't know if the bearing spun in the case first or if the crank broke first. Either way its dickered now

Need some cases bud, I am pretty sure I know where I can get a set.

Not as dramatic as some of ya'lls, but:

20 years of barn funk

Homelite XL that hung a ring

This is why you should change your oil regularly. (NOT my vehicle, lol)

245a that had a bad PTO side seal:

CL 460 that had a chunk missing from between the rings. Needed all new rubber plus P&C.

Craftsman Roper 3.7. I didn't notice the lower end bearing screws were stripped. Lower rod cap came loose and needles went everywhere until it grenaded pretty good in my hands.

Those are the highlights from the last 3 or so years. Most are your more straightforward fuel lines + carb kit type stuff. I learned WAY more on the carnage ones that I did replacing fuel lines on Chinese Poulans, though.

That 245a, in particular, was fun. Someone on AS gave me the phone number to an old man in KY (I think? Maybe IN?) who sold me his last NOS 245a piston & rings. Price was probably what he sold them at for the last 20 years... considerably lower than what they go for on eBay (once in a blue moon when they show up there).

That 245 has surprised more than a couple guys with its power to weight ratio when I let them cut with it.

BTW - in another thread I noted how these pieces can be quite instructional when trying to explain things to customers, new saw users, etc. What a 'worn' sprocket looks like compared to a new one; what running 'straight gas' does to your engine' what a worn out bar looks like; why you wear chaps; etc.. etc., etc. Save some of your 'good' ones.
