I am not really a fan of those round wedges. They seem to split the wood, at least most all the ones I have seen.

I use to soak the wedge end in oil for a day or two, do not think it is a bad idea...

I soaked the last two heads in burnt motor oil from my truck. It did seem to swell the ends some. I never mentioned it I figured some folks wouldn’t like that idea.

Oil can not hurt I Think, this H. B head was boiled in Owatrol oil on my wood stove

I’m gonna have to come up with something to protect this handle. It is a monster for splitting but I really can’t avoid overstrikes with larger green wood.

Nice Plumb you have there! If you do not want a metal or leather protector-A really easy and not expensive way ,is to take the inner tube of a bicycle and wrap it around the handle..

I’d like an h b I don’t have one yet. Fairly sure they weren’t super popular in my area as I pick heads up here and there. Plumbs must have been popular here. Most axes I run across are plumb or no name at all. I really need to find my axe heads. I have no idea what I do with stuff.
