I found this one last year in my great-grandparent's barn. I thought about fixing it up for a user, but it's still got the original handle. So I just cleaned off the rust, oiled the handle with some linseed, and hung it over my hearth, next to my grandfather's bow saw. I figure he was probably the last one to use it.

Daily user is a Fiskars x27.

This thread has got me searching for some "old steel" axes. I normally carry a broad head hatchet with a 28" handle on it so I can drive wedges decently, but I could use a little more weight. It's "old steel" where a file dances on the cutting edge. Tap it on something and hear it ring. Beautiful! It's a shame that only a few make products like that anymore.

Here is most of my collection, the shiny Walters and a Collins, a few RUHR and a H&B's all from yard sales, also have a Estwing. The small broad axe is a Rely On. Might have others hiding.

Those are some mighty fine looking tools you have there. What brand are the bottom 2?

Collins on the left and H$B or Hults Bruk on the right made in Sweeden. The most expensive one there is $8.

I wonder how a high end say Gransfurs Bruks splits wood compared to a S2800/X27. There seems to be some good buys new on the market if one looks carefully. The new composite axes cut so well but me still likey a ol' skool hand forged tool.
