I helped my friend work on his late grandfather's shop he retired from union carbide in the 80s after 30+ year's.
i used to put up hay from his field's in 84-88 maynard had a undiagnosed hoarding problem lol
He bought lots for 5.00 a truckload of fittings tool's materials etc.
Found some neat stuff
My buddy gave me these axes the two up top are Kelly's the bottom is either a kelly or plumb.
I found a new Kelly's brush axe never handled and a couple of shingle hatchets new but had been sharpened razor sharp lol20170515_122718.jpg 20170515_122700.jpg 20170515_122656.jpg 20170515_114405.jpg 20170515_165244.jpg

None but i know many of the patterns by heart everyone pretty much has Kelly's around here lol
They sold many with no markings but if i don't recognize the pattern i know the steel when i sharpen it it's tough stuff and holds an edge forever it seems like.

I picked up this Stiletto off eBay the other day. I'm pretty happy with the quality of the steel. It even has a Stiletto stamped handle.

Thanks, I was looking for a heavier axe to drive wedges and this came up for a decent price on ebay. I wanted to go with something vintage purely for the quality of steel they used to use. Someone had cleaned up the one side with a wire brush so I did the whole thing. I think I'll wet sand it some more and maybe cold blue it.

From the little research I've done they were out of California around, Sacramento I think. Later they contracted Kelly and True Temper to make their axes.
