Didnt trust the Pine Knot wedge, so I didnt try it.
It was just too rich, you could hold it up to a light & a lot of it looked like Amber, you could see right thru it.
It also needs to be installed dry (no BLO) to be effective from what I've read.

So I made a White Oak wedge.
3" long, 2.75" of it going into the head (deepest wedge I've ever put in).

I'm liking the balance of this Mann Connie.
Just need to sharpen it & give it a workout.

Yeah, I know it, just using a handle I had.
Cant find a good handle around here.
I've only had 1 handle break my entire life, a Collins Boy's axe & it lasted 5 years or more.
Wouldn't be a problem for me to rehaft if it does. Lol

Looks like he mounted the ax upside down. Can you tell what kind it is? Any markings?
Quite possible the head is not on the right way, it flew off a couple time while I was there bucking his beech logs - he just shoves it back on.

I took those pictures as I was leaving, didn't think of looking for any markings.
Will try to remember when I go back to buck the oak log pile he got yesterday.

these heads split quite well No they don’t cost the world
I am not a fan of mauls since my Dragon Slayer ax can handle 90+% of what I encounter without wearing me out.
Anything really gnarly gets noodled anyway.

I have an oak log pile to buck up at that neighbor, when I go buck it I'll bring my ax along and compare its performance to his maul. ;)

P.S.:
I tried my ax/maul hybrid in fresh bucked oak two weeks ago, it was so underwhelming compared to my ax I hung it back up where it was "stashed" for the past couple years!
