Hopefully I'll have a new axe for my modest collection this upcoming week. Mainly wanted it for the heavier head and short fat handle.

At $200 for the axe alone I got high expectations let's hope it doesn't fall flat on its face.

Anybody know where I can get an OEM handle for a Chopper 1? I actually need 2 of them. The ones with the metallic paint on them. Bought one with a cheap aftermarket handle and I broke the shaft out of the other

Delay after delay. I just want my new axe.

Edit: I had a dream last night about chunking out the bit. Woke up feeling like it was broke then realized I didn't even have it yet. I'm not even telling a tale.

Delay after delay it's finally here!

The handle to me is perfect. It's alittle fatter than normal but it's what made me gravitate to it. I also don't think it's as bad as some people said though. It's no where near maul/hammer area.

However it is alittle rougher on the finish side. They say it was done too 150 but it does feel alittle rougher. - maybe the handle itself was done to 150 wet then dried and put on the head.

Maybe I'll sand it a little more and put some linseed on it.

It came with very even cheeks aswell

EDIT: the lines on it are because I already took it to my wood pile right out of box. The live oak still put up a fight chopping or splitting. But that's expected. Splits pine like a dream though. I got a few more pines to fell on my property. Maybe I devote some of the smaller sections to splitting/chopping to test out the axe before I hit the road.

Drove some wedges today with the new axe. All I can say is it's so much nicer.

However the leather strapping broke loose. So I'm thinking about getting my leather tools out ringing the holes and using Paracord to secure it.

So I was looking at trying to get a hand forged axe head and found this guy in the Ukraine that had a double bit he makes just the head is 6+ lbs but after I reached out he said that Ukrainian customs classified them as a weapon and won't ship them to the US.
Does anybody know of a blacksmith here in the US that would make an axe head like this? WF_Double_Bit_Big_Head_Closeup_Logo_large.jpg

So I think I may have found a blacksmith in Virginia that is willing to make me a nice thick heavy double bit. I will give more info as the process progresses.
