What wood-working tools are you guys using to fit the handle to the axe head?

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I picked up a few old Kelly True Tempers and Plumbs. Found a few new handles with good grain orientation and bombed out on the fitment.

I'm not a woodworker, so I tried fitting the handle with a horseshoeing rasp and an orbital sander. No dice.

What are you guys using to "plane" the wood down on the handle?

I really like these Shinto rasps. They have a coarse and a fine side you can use depending on your finish needs.

iam still pretty much the same as you I got a 10” vertical bandsaw for getting a
Basic handle shape and for cutting wedges
6 blacksmith rasps ranging form 1” to 2” and new too dull sharpness
Half round rasp hack saw blades and 4.5” grinder and plenty of sand paper
And a sharp pocket knife

Anyone have a bigger brother to one of these? It's a 1lbz10oz Genuine Norlund. I'm thinking I could make a trade for one of my handmade knives for one possibly??? I've look and searched, but have had no luck here and ones I've seen on Ebay have had an angle grinder taken to them.

I had a full set of norlund axes but traded them for a hefty selection of double bits from California

Hopefully I'll have a new axe for my modest collection this upcoming week. Mainly wanted it for the heavier head and short fat handle.

At $200 for the axe alone I got high expectations let's hope it doesn't fall flat on its face.
