Not sure but I doubt you want the heart The tougher stuff is usually on the outer edges just a bit below the barkGuys, is regular European walnut any good for a ~40" ax handle?
I was asked to take down a heavy leaner but otherwise healthy walnut.
The whole tree is to be cut down to firewood length by me, so I'm considering to ask for a piece of it as compensation for my work if it is good wood for a handle.
What part should I take, the lower part of the trunk?
Do I aim for the heart piece?
Tree is about 12" diameter, I might take it down tomorrow afternoon.
Suggestions and opinions would be appreciated.
