Guys, is regular European walnut any good for a ~40" ax handle?

I was asked to take down a heavy leaner but otherwise healthy walnut.
The whole tree is to be cut down to firewood length by me, so I'm considering to ask for a piece of it as compensation for my work if it is good wood for a handle.

What part should I take, the lower part of the trunk?
Do I aim for the heart piece?

Tree is about 12" diameter, I might take it down tomorrow afternoon.
Suggestions and opinions would be appreciated.

Not sure but I doubt you want the heart The tougher stuff is usually on the outer edges just a bit below the bark

I got em from the U.K. quite cheap actualy 28” and 36” only problem with these is they are very narrow head fitment

But I’ve committed a big crime will show you in a while

This head had been banged in on the sides to tighten the handle so this one fitted

There is something about the Norlund axe head design that is calling me. Just seems like a real good design.

The Keech some times will do. The David Foster not any more. Got to pick up another Foster today.
