Them ears are typical of a Jersey pattern axe.

Picked up a Plumb hewing hatchet and an Phila Tool carpenters hatchet today. Pretty disappointed that these were all I could find while out antique shopping with my wife today. Found a Kelley single bit but some jackass ruined it with a grinder, half the logo was gone and there were stray grinder marks all over the place on it.

I didn’t know hewing hatchets existed. All I’ve ever seen are full sized broad axes, so I’m pretty satisfied to have found it. Maybe I’ll hew out some 2x4’s lol

that Puget is large head nearly 12" so a beauty I've never seen one before, nice big eye there's a normal well used cruiser head next too it

Is it heavy? Gotta be quite a bit heavier than the average double bit.

Pugets are amazing felling axes, they cut very deep. They usually weigh around 5lbs Jeff, sometimes slightly less. I’d love to find one someday, without resorting to eBay.

Interesting, I would have guessed they weighed more. Due to size.

Jeff I weighed a normal run of the mill unbranded cruiser axe and I weighed the
Puget and here are the results

I forgot too say the puget is sporting a heavier hickory handle
And the cruiser is holding a ash handle
