i clean my bar groove every time i change chains. i dont think the drive links go all the way to the bottom of the groove based on how deep into there my cleaning tool goes in comparison to the length of the driver. i havent ever measured it though. however when there is stuff in there the chain doesnt ride high on the bar indicating that there is junk in there
