I would not run a 24" even in 325 on a 54cc. JMO

But I have this like new one on the shelf. Pulls 180psi. Green tank and front exit muffler 3450.

Had 3 saws sold but the $$$ never showed. So they are still FS. This is one of them.

Yea, 85% of what I cut is oak. If you think the hotter poulan will pull the 24" .325 no problem, that might just be the most economical way to go. So @Cut4fun ....you have a 3.0/3000 crank or parts saw you want to let go of? I need a crank, a top cover and airbox cover, and a handle.

EDIT I just saw your last post, it didn't come up initially for some reason. So that 3450, whats the story on it? You say you wouldn't run a 24" bar? the 3450 is just a 54cc model, right? Or is it 60?

I have a nice Stihl 029 that I can strap a 24" bar with 3/8 for you if your interested. I will take some videos if you're interested.
Saw runs strong.
Right at your price range.

In my experience, an 029 might pull a 24" bar with skip chain, especially in softwood. The word "Authority", however wouldn't be part of the situation. Throw an 039 top end on it, though, and you're getting somewhere...

Yup. I hear you. I was planning on doing that if I ever blew up the saw, but it runs to good to mess with it. Not touching anything until I have to. Lol
Saw does have a muffler mod and retune which really woke up the saw.

I had a 290 I swapped to 3/8. With a 20" it was very iffy. It would pull it but in red oak you had to baby it

U need to run skip chain and do a muffler mod and remove limiter caps on carb and return carb then it will cut better

I did the muffler mod and removed the carb limiters. Really woke up the saw. The skip chain would definitely do the trick.
Thanks for the great info Jim.

I have an 044 for a 20" now
Yup, me too. Its fun to run that against my 700 with a 20" bar. Old school torque becomes apparent as does modern saws speed. Both put smiles on every face when cutting firewood. They may be heavier than 50cc saws but are a ton faster. In those bar lengths firewood cuts like butter.

Agreed. 20" with a 8 pin. Pulls great

Its also easier on the saw compared to maxing out bar length. Though bending with the shorter bar can be a back killer. I often find my back hurts less with my 372 and 28" lightweight bar than it does with my 346 and 18" bar after a couple hours of cutting.

I like being over gunned too. 7 pin 3/8" 20" bar on my 460. Although I did recently play with an 8 pin and a 20" bar on my MMWS 660...

My dad has a 290, and my Poulan 3000 SMOKES it. Like, I'm standing up having a sip of beer while he's still in the cut. I run 18" on the 3000, but his 290 might have a 20" on it; I'm not positive.

The difference between an 18" and a 20" is negligible to me, I have two 50cc saws, one with each size bar and they run fine- yes, in hardwood too. I recently had two jobs where I was cutting and noodling 36" wood; the 20" saw isn't running right so I did it all with the 3000/18". The saw ran great and never balked at the task, but having to match two cuts up sucks.

Stihl 029 is a far better saw and much more reliable.

Shop around, you never what you will find. I just picked up a Jonsered 801 for nothing and dumped the old fuel out, cleaned it up and fueled it and it runs like a champ.
