You would be correct Joe, but there is some rule about case capacity vs. cylinder displacement floating around.

A hybrid will need to take more gulps to move the same amount of air as the larger parent saw. I believe that's why they gain so much rpm.

I've seen a lot of guys who really know there stuff convert their 044's back to the 50mm jug because they weren't happy with the hybrid.

Thanks Doc, I figured there was something I was missing, wonder where the point of diminishing returns is on case volume vs. cylinder size?

Joe

I remember Treemonkey posting about it back on the AS. It was a discussion about why an 046 will make more torque than an 044/46 hybrid.

I don't know the formula.

Brad Snelling builds a bad ass hybrid. Wiggs checked the timing numbers in one that Young Reed has, and if I remember correctly it was at 95 on the exhaust, with the transfers at 118. I don't recall the intake, but I think it was about 85.

If Brad raised his intake, which I know he doesn't believe in, I bet he could run a 120-122 transfer and make more torque.

But his durations on int/ex are balanced.

I try to use transfer velocity to build strong saws and most of the time It works but I got a saw last week that has taught me something, direction can also make giant power, looking at how big the transfers are I'd bet a million it was a turd but I would have lost,it's insanely strong.

I've tried increasing case capacity via transfers, I may not gave gone about it the correct way but it did indeed increase case volume and I lost power drastically. I may have a few more tweaks with the saw but I like the timing in this one

101.5 - 122 - 80. I cut .022 off the base and chit canned the gasket and set squish to .018. What I like most about it is the upper trans are compleatly stock

I am really seeing a trend of good saw builds with stock uppers
I never checked them with a gasket, but they had to be about 117-118 which is good stock timing
