I find getting to the lead person or "the boss" gets me what I want with a little persuading. At one time this old piney lived off the scrap off the pines and got paid to pull the wrecks for OSHA, forest rangers and state police. The local shops were on my junk run and picking small tools and outboard motors for repair and flipping was always high on my list of things to do. Most of these places still exist and a few more new ones in mix. Our local dump closed when I was a kid :-( Dumps are cool to get steel and small tools. Still rode dirt bikes there but no more pickins.
While your on your junk run or picks ask about tools. Flipped a lot of hand tools back then just because you ask, got anything for sale. Go back and ask him again to buy that saw.

The City was taking down some big pecan trees for a parking lot. I stopped and asked if I could cut some and take it after hours or on the weekend. Told me no. He said you can call my boss but he will tell you the same thing. Then he told me both he and his boss would be taking as much as they wanted, with a big smile on his face, and the rest would go to the dump.
And what dump would that be? You have lunch yet today?

Almost all of my pipe dies came from the scrap tubs .This past summer I had to dig out my combination die and oil it it up to even get it to work. Threaded a section of 2" for an exhaust pipe for the old Oliver crawler using a 3 foot cheater pipe .I had been decades since I'd used a hand die on anything .I found out I'm not nearly as strong as I used to be .

Some of those dumpster finds can be interesting, some are just junk or parts .I'm not even certain how many or what brands I have .Some I might get running but most likely not all of them .The battle is getting them running not to use them .Some of those gear drives are slow as a snail and heavy as lead .

If you've never tried one, Speedfeed heads are pretty hard to beat.

The ones that you came turn the bump knob to wind the string in? I used the Stihl and echo versions and they are great. No losing pieces in the brush.

Yep they come with a bunch of adapters, should fit just about any trimmer. I have one on my Makita and the new 525 husky. They're slick.

Courts have held that the police can legally search your trash without a warrant once it is taken to the curb, as you have voluntarily abandoned it at that point. I don't see why that wouldn't apply to ordinary citizens as well.
