I put that o ring in the saw today and rechecked the pres/vac. Both held 8 lbs for 2 mins so should be good. Now just play the waiting game for the av mount. No point putting togeathe to have take apart again. Even thougj im dying to here this old girl purr.

In mean time ill clean the carb and put the new kit in and try to straighten the handle.

They are pretty cool. If I ever find one for the right price I'll likely own it. The one I saw had a 20" bar. Pretty mean. What size bars you figurin on merc?

Im just hopin when i get it all done its dry enough to go to the bush and try it out. Were supposed to get a crap load of rain the next few days.

I was given a 181 carcass. Case with cylinder and piston and gas tank, the one on the right. It was a thin ring but the piston wasn't good. I put a 181 single ring piston in it with the other parts i had to get it going. I'm super impressed with it. It pulls a 28" full comp chain easily. I've got 288's to compare to and it hold its own.0210171635a.jpg0324171352.jpg my 181 with 28" sittin on the butt.

Got the parts and started putting the 181 togeather. Got it to the point where i could try starting it. I pulls my ass off for a bit then check plug and it flooded. Checked for spark and not.much. found an old plug to stick in and had much more spark. Putt baxk in and plug was wet aftee a few pulls. Pulles plug back out and will try again tomorrow.

Finally got enough stuff to put my 281/288 conversion together. Ordered a new O ring to seal around the oil pump which came in a box with some other things. Took it out of the bag and said Oh Sh*t. The bag was cut right through the part number, and they got the o ring at the same time so once again, waiting on parts.

Here is a photo of the old molded fuel line with the curve molded in part # 501814601 which is NLA, next to the new one part # 501426502. It fits the hole tightly in my tank and as near as I can tell at this point, it will work.

Still no luck with the 181. Give it a few pulls and it comes out wet as heck. I will have to pull it and presure check it and see what i can find. Also will check metering lever height too.
