Those 2 National seals mentioned earlier are not the correct seals according to the specs given by Al.I called my local bearing hopuse & they have a metric seal that'll fit the bill.I'll be going there on Thurs.to see about getting them.I'll be reporting back when I find out which seal is the correct one.The sales guy there said to bring the saw in as well so he can measure the pocket & shaft to get a proper fit.

The example I found on flea bay was in the $25 range .I was attempting to research Chicago Rawhide,National and Garlock using the part number 65194 and RM-1 to no avail .Google did a better job than me trying to read tiny little numbers .Never the less it's out there some place ,just have to find where it's hiding .As far as the Remington saws of which I have a few they resemble the Homelite XL-12 in design which leads me to believe the same design engineer had a hand in it .Joyce in Indiana AKA "chainsaw lady " would have known but sadly she passsed away a couple of years ago .Larry Stiener of Mentor Ohio( house of saws ) would know .

I didn't find a name but I did find this ---According to some accounts, the designer responsible for this, and similar designs sold to companies like Remington and Lombard, likely maintained similar design aesthetics to avoid patent issues while creating popular, light-duty saws.

I just got back from the bearing house in Buffalo,& the correct crank seal for the PL5 (most likely many other models too) is National 253747.There's another seal that fits too, made by TCM & that was what he had in stock @ $6.50 ea.The guy is going to call me tomorrow a.m.with the price on the National seals.

253747

Nitrile Oil Seal - Solid, 0.625 in Shaft Dia., 0.880 in OD, 0.125 in Overall Width, 25 Design, Nitrile Rubber (NBR) Lip Material

I wonder if SFK 6119 would work as well? .625 shaft, .875 O.D., .188 wide

Then I get confused going from evidently new SKF numbers related to the original Chicago Rawhide .Some have been superceded ,Makes my head hurt . With the advent of ethanol laced gasoline some have replaced the original buna n material with something more robust to ethanol . Look at the size of this book that must weigh over15 pounds ,it's all about seals ..However it contains a wealth of info if you can just find it .

Flashback to the days of dealers having several shelves with the big books in the tilted racks.
Microfiche sheets in those box~drawer type holders.

These seals can be illusive to find .One that comes to mind, clutch side seal for a Stihl 042-048 number 9640-003-3990 .I thought it was propritory because at one time you could only find them from a dealer .With the advances with the internet now a lot of times Google can find it .That seal BTW is an odd ball 20x35.8x4 .Back then , basically by accident I found them from MFG Supply in Wisconsin included in after market gasket sets .I think MFG buys job lots of items from dealers etc .Some times they have certain parts and some times not .Then once again if it were easy anybody could do it.
