This started when I posted a few pics of my Redfin MS661 on Facebook a month or so ago and some yahoo chimed in with his sage advice "it will be at least 10% faster with a Bark Box" or something to that effect.
I noticed that the HP and power claims on the BB website had decreased after they submitted a sample for dyno testing. I got it in my head to try this " Super Power Bolt On Upgrade" myself so I ordered one and had it sent to Kev's GTG in Michigan. We never got around to testing it there, we were having too much fun. I finally tested it this last weekend, here are the results.
Redfin ported MS661 with Redfin 3 port muffler and standard muff cover on 20% Nitro - 15,879rpms WOT Stihl EDT-9, 122.9F Laser Thermometer muffler case after cuts, 131.7db digital SPL meter WOT 6" from muffler front - cuts 1.3s/1.21s/1.33s
ADD BARK BOX COVER to above - 14,579rpms, 138.2F, 130.9db, 1.26s/cutout/1.33s
No Muff cover on above - 14,818rpms, 134.8F, 131.7db, 1.33s/1.2s/1.2s
Redfin muff, standard muff cover on 87 Octane 10% ethanol 32:1 Bel Ray H1R - 14,571rpms, 278.1F, 130.9db, 1.56s/1.4s/1.3s
There are things I would change if I was to do this type of test again. Having a second person to do the temp test would be ideal, it is a lot of fumbling around to grab the temp as quickly as possible after the cuts.
I also have a standard new OEM MS661 muffler on the way for testing.
Apparently my tuning on the Methanol and Nitro in the vids is terrible, so that needs fixed.
I should also try the testing with a stock and standard ported/carbed MS661.
Any other suggestions welcomed.
Dave
