How do you cut the wood for a smoker? Small chunks? Or regular length pieces?

My latest wood score is literally in my own backyard. I had one big oak come down in a storm last fall, then we took down one more. This week my neighbor had 4 oaks taken down in his yard, and all the wood ended up with me. The tree guy is a friend of mine, and they even hauled the wood to my place with their loader.

This pile needs to be stacked. Mix of black walnut, white birch and sugar maple. All this was stacked close to the tree that fell, and when the rootball came out of the ground it sent it flying everywhere. I was desperate to make sure it didn’t stay on the ground and would rot, so I threw it all up on pallets for the winter.

Lol. There’s a A LOT of cutting, splitting and stacking in my future. The stacking being my least favorite... I gotta wait a little before I start, though. I’m on a hill facing north, so it’s really wet back there still. Gonna be a mud fest if I do it now.

This trailer is built a lot better than the box store trailers. Much more HD. I keep everything greased up well. But I hear you.
I found the limits of my trailer fairly recently, luckily while loading it up still standing.
I guess one whole fresh medium sized walnut was too much, tire just went

For size reference, wheelbarrow and my car & Dolmar PS-311TH.

I was glad I wasn't moving when the tire gave up.
I am pretty certain I had my trailer painfully overloaded more than once, I was lucky all those times.

According to "Skip Trace" a mud fest is good for the harvest.
J.Chan said it so it must be true. ;)

We need a splitting GTG when this China Virus is over...lol
To heck with it!
I am on another (third) week of forced Corona-vacation, lets make a GTG now.
I'll bring my Dragon Slayer, it'll split those fresh oak rounds with every swing. :)

I most always get 1 split per swing! 95 times out of 100.
Please excuse me for saying this, but your car and trailer are so small... lol
Where do you put the saws?

No problem.
You know what they say about guys driving a small car?!;)
Neither do I! :p

Actually, my car is considered medium here in Europe. :)
But yes my trailer is tiny though it will hold exactly 1 cubic meter of volume with the lid opened - not something significantly bigger and heavier built trailers can claim.

If I had 6 large frame Dolmar's I could fit them in my cars trunk plus all additional tooling easily as long as the saws are set up with 20" B&C's max (which is my main B&C setup anyways).
Alas I only have 4 and the others are taking up more space due to the stupid easy start assemblies, as such I can fit 5 to 6 saws in my cars trunk plus my work boots, tool box and other smalls.
Some pictures I made transporting my saws.

The large frame Dolmar's are a very sleek and slender design, the others (PS-550, EA5000, PS-6100) are bulky due to the easy start assembly.
