Our hardware stores stock "loose" items, I can go in empty handed and come out with a single bolt/nut/washer/screw/nail whatever really.

I can go and purchase a single welding stick electrode.
Challenging to think of me going to a store to buy ONE WELDING ROD.:pancarta:

Looks like some shadows on the corroded spots. If that's the case, then the plating is lifted and gone in places.

Shoot guys. In recent years I'm finding out for myself, why we end up letting some things go.
We used to call it OBE: Overcome by Events.

I have a neglected chipper/shredder where im working up the courage to to pull off the taro and see how destroyed it is

Real Life is a cruel taskmaster. I thought retirement would free me, but i was sorely mistaken.
I'm having surgery on Oct. 1st and I'll be on medical leave for the rest of the year. I'm pretty sure I'm going to officially retire in January. It's takes all I have to make it through a workday nowadays. Even though I don't work that hard anymore, just being on my feet all day really makes my back hurt.

Ouch. I don't want to pry about specifics, but back surgery and spinal stuff in general can be friggin' miserable. You have my sympathy as a fellow sufferer. Best of luck with the surgery.

You're not prying at all. I don't mind sharing.
I'm not having back surgery. Im having wrist surgery. They are taking 3 bones out and putting in a metal piece in.
Im not sure surgery would help my back. There's several things wrong with it.

Lift with your legs, they taught us.
My knees are worn to, bone against bone, for it.
Very lowest part of your back, gets the other part of the load from leg lifting.
Arthritis in the low back from that. (grimmaced swear words go here)
I've put off having the knees replaced because I figure there's gotta be someone working on a replacement epoxy or some such thing, to replace that missing cartilage.
As a 'Baby Boomer", I'm old enough to not quite be just horribly worried about cancer or who knows what the heck else, from being a test case for a new type of " knee repair kit".

hmm.. Maybe I oughta be searching alibaba-bay for set? :meparto:

Yes, I've overworked my back most of my life. I have stenosis, osteoporosis, arthritis, degeneration etc.
All the cartlidge is gone in my wrist. I wear a brace all the time.
The older you get ,cancer risk increases. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in February.

Tbh, I think the current state of spinal surgery is crap. I don't know anybody who had good results. I'm working with a pain management doc and keep telling him his job is to protect me from the surgeons. FWIW, I've had good results with epidural steroid injections .

I'm hoping you get a good outcome with rhe wrist surgery.
