From what I understand, parts supply was always a problem for those things and the easiest thing to do is adapt Cat parts.
Makes sense to me. The tracks and rollers are really like Lego, so I can see adapting them being a matter of just machining the right things.

Been using analog tach to figure prop pitch on the boat. Got a new toy for the motor since I was wondering about hours and other little things. No wonder it doesn't have much of a hole shot since the tach is 1000rpm off. Over pitched, but I have a couple different props for it already. What I don't like is that it requires you to turn on location on your phone before it will work. But I have found out enough info now that it has paid for itself verses a couple trips to a dealer to hook up to a computer.

You can usually recalibrate the tach. There is a 1/8" hole on the backside of the tach. In that hole is a small 1mm or slotted adjusting screw. Run it with the vessel view and try the different pol\pulse settings (key off when you turn the selector dial) comparing the gauge to the vessel view. If the pulse settings still don't get them to match. Set it to the number it was originally 6p normally on the newer mercs and try the calibration screw.

Clear as mud?

They are. Their nest is about 50 yards behind my house, they've been returning for about 15 years. There were 3 babies this year. They are sharp too. If I let the chickens out to roam in the yard, the hawks will be circling overhead within 15 minutes.

I love the bloodthirsty bastards though... just as long as they aren't eating my chickens.

Actually yes. :) 07 75hp Optimax is set to 5P, I had the tach out last night and saw the calibration screw. Right now I am having a guardian kick in issue that is holding the RPM at about 3000 and missing out. If you give it a bit it will eventually climb above to about 4700/4800. No codes showing up to cause it but I'm beginning to lean toward bad boost pump so I will check out a few other things and then probably open up the VST. I need to take a pressure gauge and watch fuel pressure on rail when I am putting it under load. Lake is an hour drive or so and it makes it harder to shade tree to see if things are fixed.

Check the color on your plugs. Those seem to eat coils like a fat kid and cake.

They can go soft and trigger a timing light but not fire the plug. Hard to test without the laptop.

Looks like number 3 may have an intermittent spark problem. May be breaking down coil under load. I pulled plugs about a couple of weeks ago and all looked good. Ran it Wednesday with no problems except low top end rpm's. When it would finally come up over 3000 rpms it would have a strong gas smell for just a bit. It would explain it if the coil wasn't firing. I"ll pull the plugs again in the morning and see what the colors are. Been chasing my tail for the last month on this. I'll sit down and do some reading in the service manual again tonight.

Thanks, I know nothing about raising chickens. My buddy who raise them said the feed it really cheap in his town, I said, wait I have to feed them, next thing you're gonna say I need to give them water too:risas3:.
Looks like we may have more than one rooster, but we'll know soon right.

Cool shots.
I opened the front door today and had one make a hard turn up and over the roof about a ft from me, it was heading to the flowers on the step. The other day I saw a hummingbird moth fly away when I opened the door, don't see them too often.
I took this picture a couple weeks ago, guy was spraying the fields. I had the kids and wife with me, stayed upwind from any overspray, don't want to be breathing any of that.

They are pretty easy to take care of. Food and water. The hens will need oyster shell for calcium when they start laying eggs, you can buy feed with calcium already in it, but I set it oyster shell on the side too. Don't give them any extra calcium until they start to lay though, it can make them sick. Also you may want to give them access to grit, basically tiny pebbles. If they are eating anything that isn't chicken feed (bugs, grass, treats) they'll need the grit to digest. If you have small rocks around your yard, oftentimes they'll find it on their own. Tractor supply sells everything if you want to buy it.

They tolerate the winters well, not much you need to do besides set up a wind block and make sure the water doesn't freeze. I have a heated waterer. You can use a fish tank heater too.

It'll become apparent pretty quickly which ones are roosters. They'll be bigger and they'll have a bigger comb. They'll also get noisy, not full-on crowing, but they'll make some loud squawks. You can try to keep a couple and if you need to get rid of them, you can butcher them if that's your thing (it's not mine) or list them on Craigslist for free or cheap. If you do keep roosters, you'll want to use flock raiser feed, not layer feed because the roosters don't need the calcium. Just set oyster shell on the side and the hens will eat it, the roosters won't.

Man, that's awesome!

That picture was a case of the right place at the right time. I thought maybe it was a rat. I love the hawks, just as long as they aren't eating my chickens!

Thanks much, wasn't aware of the oyster shell/calcium need.
Looks like I may have two roosters which seems it could be a good number from talking to people.
They eat quite a few bugs, it's pretty fun to watch them, I think there are plenty of pebbles.
We plan on buying a heated waterer.
I was talking to a buddy last night and he said he just goes out the morning he wants chicken and grabs a rooster, guts it and skins it and throws it in the crock pot for dinner that night. While butchering them isn't something I really want to deal with I will if I have to, but we know people who butcher them for $3 each so I'd probably lean that direction.
Thanks for the advice :).

@Stevetheboatguy Checked coils and two of the three were out of range. It seems that they replaced one of them at some time. Couldn't find a reference for the 776 prefix. All I found with original numbers started 339. Three new ones ordered to replace all latest revision 300-8M0077471.

What kind are those and how do they live without leaves?

Day lilies or magic lilies. Leaves come up same time as tulips and look similar but taller. Leave die off and the flowers come up mid August. They will ‘travel’ all over the yard if left alone. Make more bulbs.

I wasn't aware of the oyster shell either until my uncle pointed it out to me, he raised chickens for a pretty long time. If I knew someone who would butcher them for me, I'd do that, I'm just not a blood and guts guy, lol.

Try giving them bread as a treat, mine will kill each other over it.

Forty four years on a radiator core is good service I guess.
