We run the synthetic rotella 10w30 in our 6.7s. Some run 15w40 in them but its just too thick for an engine that calls for 10w30 diesel oil in my opinion.

I heard a few horror stories when the 5.0 Coyote motor came out and guy trying to run 10w40 and they ceased up!

People get scared that oil is too thin and there is no way it can be good for my engine. Then they dump 10w40 where 0w20 should be. Oil takes too long to get where it needs to and too long to leave where it needs to. That is called poor lubrication. Metal on metal, bad engine! Keep in mind, that doesn't happen over night. Give it a few miles.

Lets not forget all the variable valve timing and multiple displacement stuff that does not tolerate dirty or thick oil.

Then there is Nissans variable compression engine with a 3 piece rod on an eccentric.

Long story short, use a high quality oil of the proper weight required by the manufacturer and keep it clean.
