What was the cause, broken spring?

Hard to say.
Did the spring break and cause the keepers to fall out?
Did the lifter fail, causing valve to piston contact, bending valve, breaking spring and keepers falling out?

Oftentimes in this line of work a guy just has to clean up the mess and never knows exactly what caused it.

Had to scrape the inside to start the day at work wednesday. Takes a bit to warm up the truck with only thin aluminum panels for doors and roof.
they dont have you park inside? The Topeka hub is small but they do park all the trucks inside

Would you say it was more a factory defect or a lack of maintenance?

Probably defect, something just broke. 56K miles on it. He was going about 12K on his oil changes by the receipts he brought in..

What type of wood is going into the decking -- it looks prestained (but I am from the right coast).
It’s a Doglas fir that has been treated, all of the underdeck is pressure treated and the deck surface is treated with the same stuff just not injected, probably can’t see it in the pics but they dimple the surface on the pt to get the treatment deeper. I have seen on the east coast/south they do it differently, like pine for decks.

From my understanding, Doug Fir isn't as porous as Southern Yellow Pine, so they have to perforate the surface to get penetration of the treatment.

Makes 20 below feel not to bad.
Sounds like we got some of that headed down here to Iowa. Middle of next week we could see record setting lows in the -20's and -30's and with any wind they are saying -50 in wind chills. That is just too stinking cold. Calling it a Polar Vortex, think I'll bring a little more wood in the garage. You'll probably be seeing the same there in MN, Johnmn.
