How I clean dirty or oily threads before applying threadlocker. For small holes, twist a Q-tip in there with alcohol, and a dry one until they come out clean. Double it over for big holes. For medium holes, loosen the cotton, pull it part way off, and fold it over the tip. For smaller holes, pull off some of the cotton. I have had the cotton fall off at the bottom of a hole often enough. A wood screw can pull it out, or a drop of superglue on the end of a toothpick.
