Huh? I guess I never really looked real close. Just assumed. I know by experience that red armor does indeed have an excellent film strength at 40:1 and does clean carbon deposits so I felt this would be a great application for it. Also I'm running 12:1 for break-in. :p
Make sure whatever oil you use is alcohol compatible. Husqvarna XP oil, for example, is not. At least Klotz says what fuels each oil is compatible with.

That's an FG 14. Gasoline baby!!

But I know what you mean. I only run rc specific oils in my glow engines. And all my two strokes are non-ringed so I run castor with them.

How does the power compare? I remember when the gas engines started getting small down to .60 and the HP rating was terrible because they were giving up all that extra fuel and oxygen in the fuel. I wonder how hard it would be to convert the back plate into a crank case supercharging valve like what YS pattern 4 strokes use?

So far the biggest advantage is $4 a gallon fuel and damn near 100% better fuel economy. As far as power goes out swings a 13x8 prop 8600rpms with 10:1 oil ratio for break in. Saito recommends 20:1. I have not flown it yet but the valiant 10cc is coming along nicely. Hopefully by the end of the week I can get it in the air?

It's crazy how much room and weight the gasoline engines take up. I think that's why they seem under powered. I know if I ran a saito FA82 the plane would most likely gain performance just due to the weight loss.

Sure beats $30gal for just an hour or so of flight time. But, the glow .82 would get 9,800-10,200rpm on a 13x8 at around 1.2-1.5HP

I was going to put 2 fuel tanks in my Ultra Stick to feed the .55 2HP nitro guzzler, and either run a 13x6 or a 10x10

I know my FA56 will spin a 12x6 almost 12k on glow. I'm sure once I get the FG14 on 20:1 it will spin that 13x8 around 10k. Just a few more evenings with the Valiant on the bench and we shall see.

I'm sure you are running a pipe on that ultra stick? 2hp out of a 55 is cookin'!

No, just the oversized carb they put on it stock, and 30% nitro. It's a helicopter engine, so I imagine the HP rating may be based on an OS brand tuned silencer, but the fact is even the 1.9HP .50 heli engine has a lot more power on a standard airplane muffler than the 1.65HP .46AX. I don't have a place to fly glow, so that project was never completed. A Helicopter engine is all I would want to run on airplanes because of their bigger carb and power, and some have a mid range adjustment. The only problem being adapting it to run a prop. They used to be designed to also run a prop, but they've been going away from that. OS has a heli 1.05 that mounts the same as a .90 and is rated for up to 3.7HP. A normal .90 airplane engine only peaks around 2.3-2.95HP.

No place to fly glow? Did your local field ban it?

Oh, yeah heli engines are a different breed for sure. Never really wanted anything glow over a 46 in two stroke due to the cost of fuel. Used a lot of 4 strokes .48 and larger to over come the fuel cost. That's why I am going to try this small gas 4-stroke. Ran 8k wot with that 13x8 for almost 30mins on an 8oz tank!!
