Quiet saw suggestions

We recently signed a contract with a huge stud farm with nearly 3 million euro worth of race horses to thin there hardwoods, 1 of the stipulations if the job is that we have to be as quite as possible

How far away are the horses from the woodlot?

In general smaller saws and older models are quieter... Husqvarna 357xp, 359, 365 nonXT, Stihl MS440

How much time you got?

Depending on how long the job is going to be, might be a matter of getting them acclimated to the sound of the saw(s) gradually. Also, like Wilhelm, some or all of them might be more suceptible to certain pitches vs decibel level. Could be a crap shoot.

I wouldn’t recommend a ported 1128 stihl or ported 372 . Very loud. I think you guys could put a lot of wood on the ground with 6100 dolmar/makita’s. Rather mellow tone to them stock. They cut well, good air filter and are fuel efficient. Enough torque to pull a 24” bar if you have to, but a 20” suits them well. Good 60cc class saw.

I don't know much about horses, but most animals more or less don't really mind loud noises. I guess a chainsaw could be interpreted as a growling beast.

I think the trees crashing to the ground is the biggest worry to spook them.
When we used to log padocks with livestock in them the noise of the saw's didn't seem to worry them to much but the trees hitting the deck did that's when they would spook and stampede off to the horizon lol
