Sad thing is this was a cheap, disposable mower when we bought it but I would have to spend big bucks now to get an all metal deck. If the engine goes, I may just repower it and keep the deck.

Yes, yes I do because I mow 30 degree banks With my push mower. I know that I shouldn't mow that with a splash lubed engine but you can't buy a lawn boy new. :(

Praise the lord and pass the push mower! It is so much easier to push now! I just can't get over the difference. I still may look into greasing the bearing somehow.

Seems like any new mower you buy now the weak point are the wheels. I now have 3 Lawnboys that I use. Still have my old Craftsman big wheel though, wonderful 8 horse Briggs overhead valve engine but the plastic big wheel hubs turned to dust. Replacement wheels were $60 each. I said no thanks.

Or like the new push mowers with plastic front deck. How long will that last?
Your absolutely right! I know so many ppl that buy new mowers, trimmers, and snow blowers every couple years. It makes me sick

If they would take care of it... But I am a fine one to talk. I just started regularly changing the oil in my mowers a two or three summers ago.

this isn't homelite lol parts are available through ebay lawnboy or even a small engine shop that has some parts buried in the back room.
stens and rotary carry aftermarket parts also.

last two summers if your lucky.

I've only pushed 2 LawnBoys over the last 52 years. The '64 that my Grandpa bought new and still runs, plus the '69 that I picked up 7 or 8 years ago. Parts needed? A set of points and condenser and 2 plugs for the '64 and nothing so far on the '69. I got a '77 model now to join them.

I can't see why anyone would settle for a lesser mower.

you better keep an eye on the seals that like to go bad in a hurray in those. and one more tip on the exhaust ports to clean them use a 3/8 wooden dowel rod.
and both the 64,69 model both require 16:1 because of lower pto bearing just being a bronze bushing and not a needle bearing.

Don't need to run them that rich with modern 2 cycle oil , they will run fine and last forever on a 40:1 mix , trust me !

Likely still good oil Jake , I think it was made by Castrol for them . I've run LB's for years on the same 40:1 mix I use in my saws and I think at that enough oil is finding it's way to the bushing , the early ones having the larger one .
I found during a couple tear downs of my own mowers that all the bearing surfaces had a nice coating of oil plus in the crankcase design it is set up so oil is directed toward the bearings .
The leaner mix also prevents the exhaust ports from building up with carbon , I haven't had to clean mine .

2 stroke with self propelled and mag deck. I have 2 of these now and love them!

you need a lawnboy 2 stroke with a cast deck.
I bought a 6230 at a yard sale a couple of years ago and even though it was a great mower it was a little heavy for my liking. Plus at 6'5" the ergos were off. I sold it to a guy that loves lb's. I'd rather cut and hack on a cheap mower than a nice lawn boy or Honda.
