An MS880 has been on my “someday” list for awhile, and with my doing residential tree work now I had a reason to buy one. This one was built by Randy a couple years ago with a ported OEM p&c and an unlimited coil. Running a 41” Cannon SuperBar. I absolutely love this thing. Now just gotta find some stumps. And a huge shoutout to member @luckydad for the awesome deal. I drove about 3 hours to meet him and pick this saw up this morning and it was everything he advertised and more. Thanks for the awesome deal.

I've never owned an 880 but I had a 084. After Randy ported it it was night and day difference. That 880 should be a horse

I pass by the Stihl saws at my side job all the time, the biggest they carry is the 660. I think, if you need a saw that big why not just move up to an 880? Seems like a pretty big gain in cubes for not much more size/weight/cost.

The 660/661 seems to be the most prevalent saw for west coast loggers. My guess would be power to weight ratio. A 661 full of fuel and oil with a 36” light bar weighs somewhere around 25 lbs. they don’t make light bars for the 880 and with a 36” standard bar this one weighs 34 lbs. 9 lbs is a huge difference in the woods. But if they are using it for flushing stumps and not getting far from the truck then the 880 is the way to go in my book. Though I’ve heard and seen videos that a stock 661 will outrun a stock 880 until the wood is over 36”. These big saws really come into their own with a bar over 36.

Thanks! I have zilch experience in this size class so I can now see how those variables would come into play.

Cool! Glad to see you got the little one involved, so it means enough to share. She may not understand now, but if she sees that in 20 years, it will mean a lot. Great pic!
I agree that will be a great stumper or faller for big stuff.
Not something you want to carry out in the woods, but if you're staying close to the truck, its perfect. No lacking for power. Just keep the chain sharp and plenty of bar oil in er.
